Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

The preloaded CBD pen comes in a sleek yet simply designed charcoal blue box.

The bar graph on the back of the sturdy box represents the levels of THC, CBD, accessory cannabinoids and five major terpenes in a visually stimulating way, which is a rare packaging find. I just wish the graph had a numbered representation and the “accessory cannabinoids” were explicitly revealed.

The dosist packaging also includes the THC and CBD milligram content, lot number, manufacturing and expiration dates, and other compliance info.

The dosist calm pen comes encased in a tamper-proof, see-through plastic container. Inside, the white cylinder just a little wider than your pinky finger that’s compatible with the iPhone generation’s style expectations. The design is discreet, though it’s also something you want to be seen using. I’d feel slick using it at a show or another public event.

Quality, Ease of Use

Not only does this dosist pen hit smooth, but it also vibrates! The same constant formula and airflow create a consistent, delightful experience that I appreciate.

Oil quality is the second half of the equation, and I look for cartridges and disposables with thick, golden oil. Dosist Calm certainly delivers, though with a slight cloudiness that made me raise an eyebrow.

Dosist (aka hmbldt) has even done the thinking for you so just inhale and you’re off to the races. Each hit has 2.25mg of CBD dominant oil and the pen gently vibrates after three seconds, letting you know you’ve gotten a “proper hit.”

As soon as I took my first “dose,” the sweet and sour cherry flavor indicative of CBD (I don’t know why CBD has that flavor) hit my tongue and made my mouth water. It’s easily one of my favorite flavors, as the oil used in the dosist Calm pen showcases the terpene profile beautifully.

Every pen is designed with its own state-of-the-art recyclable battery – a nice gesture toward Mother Earth.

However, each battery is very much its own animal, and getting accustomed to each dosist pen’s particular quirk takes a bit of finessing (i.e. learning how much you need to “pull” to get a hit).

Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

Before trying this, I was feeling anxious. After taking the three suggested doses an hour for experience cannabis users, my anxiety immediately subsided.

Still, this recommended calm dose was too little for me. Given its efficacy at helping handle my anxiety, I’d give this product five out of five stars if I could gauge my own doses and take larger puffs at a time.

This CBD-rich formula provides focused clarity, which isn’t so much of a “high” as it is a nervous-system soother. The suggested “3 doses/hour for experienced cannabis user” was much too little for me.

Despite dosist Calm’s look, function and effectiveness, its $50 price tag is just too high for the regular cannabis user. (A 200-dose pen typically goes for $100.)

You’re paying more for the pen’s proprietary design and technology than for the vape oil inside as this “50 dose” only provides .185 grams of CBD oil. I’m used to paying the same price for a 1g Delta 9 1:5 THC:CBD cartridge

It’s not a cost-effective way to regularly consume cannabis, but if you need just a bit to feel the effects or are new to cannabis, this is a solid entry-level pen–if you don’t mind spending a little extra.

Overall Rating: 4.4

With its elegant design, accurate dosing, vibration, dependable formula and fruity sour taste, the Calm pen by dosist sets the bar high for vape pens by creating a dependable experience I can trust. While the hefty price for so little CBD vape oil isn’t worth it if you’re a regular cannabis user or want more bang for your buck, it’s ideal for small and accurate dosing.

  • Best-Tasting Cannabis Dessert Strains, Available Now from Nugg Club

What’s in a name? You’ve probably heard of cannabis strains like UK Cheese and Sour Diesel, but what about Cherry Pie and Creme Brulee? How do these strains get their sweet-sounding names?

One of the first “dessert strains” to emerge on dispensary shelves was GSC (formerly known as Girl Scout Cookies), a mouth-watering cross between the strains OG Kush and Durban Poison. It may sound strange to name a cannabis strain “cookies,” especially when one of that strain’s parents has the word “poison” in the name. But this popular strain’s most common terpenes – caryophyllene, limonene, and linalool – combine to deliver a sweet, earthy aroma that’s sure to please any palate.

Following in the footsteps of GSC, a whole menu of sweet treat cannabis strains have hit the market in recent years. Whether you’re an aficionado of exotic strains or you’re just curious about some of the most sought-after cannabis phenotypes, Nugg has got the info you need – along with recommendations of our favorite versions of each strain! Read on for our rundown of the top five dessert strains, and be sure to keep a snack handy when you try them all yourself!

    Gelato

This terpene-rich strain is an indica-dominant hybrid that offers the best of its two parent strains: Sunset Sherbet (GSC x Pink Panties) and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies (aka, Thin Mint GSC). Originating in the San Francisco Bay Area, Gelato boasts a floral/sour berry aroma and flavor thanks to the relatively high concentrations of the terpenes myrcene, pinene, and caryophyllene, but it’s Gelato’s effects that you’re most likely to remember. Expect a calming high that’s gently euphoric without being overpoweringly cerebral. There’s also a strong body high that’s sure to help relieve pain, stress, anxiety, and with a high enough dose, insomnia. However, when consumed in moderation, Gelato is generally considered an “anytime” strain.

Nugg recommends 8th Brother’s delicious batch of Gelato. They’re a fully licensed, certified organic farm based in Mendocino County, run by second-generation farmers. 8th Brother’s cannabis is always grown in the sun without any herbicides or pesticides. Available from Nugg in 3.5-gram pre-weighed eighths.

    Cherry Pie

This tart, tasty strain has two rockstar parents: Durban Poison and Granddaddy Purple, aka GDP (Big Bud x Purple Urkle). The effects lean more to the indica side, owing to the strong indica genetics of GDP. While it has some sativa genetics from its Durban Poison parent, some users report that Cherry Pie feels like an 80/20 indica-dominant hybrid. It typically has relatively high concentrations of the terpenes Pinene, Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene, though each batch will vary. With an aroma that’s reminiscent of sweet cherries and musky earth, Cherry Pie will produce a euphoric yet relaxing high, perfect for unwinding late in the afternoon or after work. Some consumers report a giggly, upbeat effect that’s balanced out by a comfortable dose of pain relief and muscle relaxation.

We here at Nugg recommend you check out THC Design’s prepackaged eighths of Cherry Pie. THC Design is based out of Los Angeles and they’re dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and cultural acceptance when it comes to cannabis. Each eighth-size jar of flower is tested for purity/potency and weighs in at 3.5 grams.

    Forbidden Fruit

Expect a burst of flavor when you open the jar and smell this fruit-forward strain. Forbidden Fruit is an indica strain that’s born from Cherry Pie (Durban Poison x GDP) crossed with Tangie (California Orange x Skunk). The buds smell like a mix of tart cherry and bright, crisp citrus – some swear it’s reminiscent of grapefruit. That aroma caused by Forbidden Fruit’s terpene profile, which includes relatively high concentrations of Myrcene, Caryophyllene, and Limonene. In terms of effects, expect a potent full-body buzz that will relax the mind and melt away physical discomfort.

If you’re interested in trying Forbidden Fruit, Nugg recommends that you pick up an eighth from THC Design. These 3.5-gram prepackaged jars contain single-source cannabis flower that’s been grown responsibly, right here in Los Angeles.

    Blackberry Cream

If you’re looking for a strong indica-dominant strain that can tackle pain, stress, and insomnia, Blackberry Cream will hit the spot. This strain combines the genetics of its parent strains, Blackberry Kush (Afghani x Blackberry) and Cookies & Cream (GSC x Starfighter), and its terpene profile typically displays relatively high concentrations of Limonene, Linalool, Caryophyllene, and Pinene. Some consumers report feeling a gentle sense of euphoria, but Blackberry Cream is most frequently used to treat pain, muscle spasms, and difficulty sleeping. Save this strain for after-dinner consumption or the strong indica genetics in Blackberry Cream could end your evening early.

If you’re looking for a great batch of Blackberry Cream, Nugg recommends you check out a 3.5 gram eighth of Erba’s cannabis. Expect a great product at a great price every time you order from Nugg!

    Creme Brulee

This indica-dominant hybrid brings together three different cannabis lineages: OG Kush crossed with Platinum Kush crossed with GSC. Expect a potent dose of relaxation, appetite stimulation, and eventual sedation from this three-way hybrid cannabis strain. Some consumers swear this strain has a nutty, sweet vanilla aroma and taste, making it a great evening snack. Just don’t indulge in this strain too early in the day or you might find yourself snoozing on the couch!

Anyone interested in checking out Creme Brulee should try 8th Brothers. Each 3.5-gram eighth is certified organic, raised and harvested in Mendocino County. Enjoy sun-grown cannabis from one of the finest cannabis regions in the world with 8th Brothers, available now from Nugg Club!

  • KIVA Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar (2019 Review)

When I’m looking for great edibles, I know the devil’s in the details (as well as in the calories, but I choose to ignore that). There are many brands with great marketing and branding yet lackluster products. Others are so focused on the product that they completely miss the mark on design, craftsmanship and brand awareness. Not KIVA.

The brand remains dedicated to crafting intricate chocolates and mints that are just as detailed as their packaging. It’s clear KIVA cares about nurturing, enhancing and improving your life.

While KIVA Confections produces eight distinct chocolate bar flavors, the 100mg THC Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar’s mix of bitter chocolate and tart blackberry sounded complex and tasty.

Read on as we break down this infused candy bar and discover if it meets that expectation.

  • In this Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate bar review, you'll learn about this product's:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

Even the packaging makes the brand’s intention clear: to provide a delicious, safe, and consistent result that delights. The choco bar comes packaged in a white, resealable child-proof bag. Inside, the rectangular, recyclable box has an organic aesthetic that’s friendly, informative, rustic and modern.

KIVA goes the extra mile to list ingredients, how to store the chocolate, nutritional facts, allergy warnings, dosage info, and a “best by” date (shockingly missing on a lot of products). The thick, burgundy aluminum sleeve wrapping the chocolate also relays the dosage and onset instructions.

The chocolate bar itself is adorned with more branded detail and feels heavy, a sign of quality backed up by its smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture. This 100-milligram bar is divided into 20 five-milligram pieces for accurate dosing. I enjoy edibles broken into smaller-than-average doses since I can easily adjust my amount depending on mood and time of day.

    Quality, Ease of Use

Although these rectangular pieces have smaller amounts of THC, it doesn’t mean they lack flavor and effectiveness. The mix of dark chocolate and blackberry takes my palate on a flavorful journey that starts bitter and ends sweet – like almost any Sandra Bullock film in the form of a chocolate bar.

Somewhere in between, I’m hit with a subtle hint of cannabis flavor and aroma that provides a nice, earthy contrast to the others. This chocolate is high quality, from flavor to texture, and tastes more like a dessert at a five-star restaurant than marijuana edible. I’d eat this even if it didn’t contain cannabis.

    Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

I ate 80mg of KIVA’s Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar, nearly the entire edible. After 45 minutes I felt a slight head change and was sailing smoothly about 1.5 hours in. This bar didn’t make my head foggy like other edibles; I was relaxed without feeling overwhelmed by those sometimes unpredictable cannabinoids.

Two and a half hours in, the blackberry bar has reached its peak and I’m pretty blasted; perhaps KIVA’s 80mgs were a bit much, despite my higher tolerance.

While there were lots of visual stimuli, I was happy taking a nighttime stroll and admiring the way the streetlights shone through the trees. This would have been a more functional high if I took about 30mg less because four hours after ingesting I passed out on my bed. Hell, it’s 1:30 a.m., so why not?

KIVA’s Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar (around $22) is an enjoyable edible that offers a versatile, potent high. The superior chocolate quality helps support the higher-than-average price tag. Before regulation, KIVA’s chocolate bars were nearly twice as strong for practically the same price.

Nugg Score: How the Nugg Team Rates This Product

    Packaging: 4.5/5

    • What you’d see from a high-quality chocolate bar on the shelves of an upscale supermarket.
    • The simple, earthy design is easy to trust.
    • Bar stays well protected in the bulky child-resistant zip bag.

    Labeling: 4/5

    • Frontside indicates the flavor, net weight, THC content, and number of pieces.
    • Backside features a full information panel that includes cannabinoid content, safety and allergy warnings, ingredients, dosages, nutrition info and more.
    • Would have liked to see a stickered QR code on the package to confirm lab test results and what strains were used.

    Easy to Dose: 5/5

    • Each 100mg bar contains 20 pieces at 5mg each.
    • Portions are indented for easy and accurate dosing.
    • If you desire smaller increments, use a sharp knife to cut each piece into four segments.

    Discretion: 4/5

    • This “natural” colored box shouldn’t be the cause of unwanted attention.
    • Inner burgundy package makes this bar even more discreet.
    • Chocolate bar itself has cannabis leaves printed on it; this isn’t noticeable without close examination.

    Taste: 5/5

    • Hint of cannabis taste.
    • Delicious blend of bittersweet dark chocolate with sweet, fruity blackberries.

    Texture: 5/5

    • Smooth mouthfeel, just as chocolate should feel.
    • No particulate matter, nothing granular, just a sweet and smooth dissolve.
    • Chocolate bar didn’t leave any melted chocolate on my fingers after eating.

    Effectiveness: 5/5

    • Subtle head-change crept in about 45 minutes after finishing 80mg.
    • Didn’t make my head foggy as some edibles do; relaxing without feeling overwhelmed.
    • Would have been a functional edible if I took about 30mg less.
    • Peaked at two hours, passed out in my bed by the fourth hour.

    Versatility: 5/5

    • Solid bar of blackberry chocolate; use in any recipe that calls for dark chocolate.
    • Perfect for melting down at a low temp to drizzle over ice cream, cake or brownies.
    • Could chop up the pieces for chocolate chips; larger pieces for s’mores and even a mole sauce for a savory, slightly berry Mexican dish!

    Consistency: 5/5

    • I return to KIVA time and time again for consistent results.
    • Accurate dosing, great flavors and positive effects – it’s become a cannabis brand name for a reason!

    Price: 4/5

    • $22, isn’t a bad price for a delicious, potent and consistent edible.
    • Chocolate quality helps to justify a higher price point.
    • Pre-regulation, these had nearly two times the potency for the same price (keeping up with regulations gets expensive).

    Overall Rating: 4.65

If you want a delicious, artisanal and effective edible for about 20 bucks, you can’t go wrong with KIVA’s Blackberry Dark Chocolate Bar. Its high quality, delicious flavor and smooth texture feel like I’m eating a swanky dessert at L.A.’s famed Chateau Marmont. More potent than I anticipated, this KIVA bar will make you relaxed without feeling overwhelmed all while making your taste buds dance with fruity delight.

  • Chong’s Choice Wake ‘N’ Bacon Chocolate Bar (2019 Review)

You’d be hard-pressed to find an American cannabis consumer who doesn’t recognize the name Tommy Chong. Now with his brand, Chong’s Choice, the cannabis icon curates some of the finest marijuana for you.

Every strain offered and used in his products is handpicked by Tommy himself. Always expect locally sourced, organically farmed, and lab-certified cannabis grown with one goal: to get you very high.

If you can’t trust America’s cannabis sweetheart about cannabis, who can you trust?

Their sweet Wake ‘N’ Bacon Dark Chocolate Bar immediately caught my eye. I was instantly wowed by the distinct flavor combo, texture, and quality. How often do you see chocolate with waffle chunks, bacon and maple syrup, much less a cannabis-infused one? The flavor profile alone makes the edible worthwhile, especially since everything is better with bacon.

In this comprehensive breakdown, we’ll determine if Chong’s chocolate matches the man’s reputation.

  • In this Chong's Choice Wake 'N' Bacon chocolate bar review, you'll learn about its:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

Your experience begins the moment you get the child-proof, matte black packaging, adorned with sketched art to match the breakfast theme–a hand-drawn waffle here, a piece of bacon over there – along with a picture of the man himself.

The package says the infused chocolate bar contains 100mg of THC, but the lab sticker right below states it actually has 90.5mg (fluctuations are now common with mandatory testing).

On the back of the bag are directions for opening and usage, dietary facts, a list of ingredients, company information, MFG date, best by date, lot number, license number and government warnings. There’s also a little note about the company and the chocolate bar’s flavor.

I would like to have seen some information on the strain(s) and type of extract used. A QR code or some way to verify lab test results would also be helpful.

As you reach the box and start unwrapping the gold foil, you’ll notice the heavier-than-usual weight and density. Once unwrapped, the edible looks crafted by a Parisian chocolatier. The back of the bar looks unrefined and textured with protruding chunks, adding a nice visual contrast. Your curiosity is officially piqued.

It’s separated into 20 demarcated pieces of 4.5mg each, a nice option if you’re new to cannabis or prefer a lower amount.

    Quality, Ease of Use

I was pleasantly surprised by the perfectly crunchy waffle pieces embedded within the dark chocolate. Sweet, salty, savory and bitter all in one bite. Then I appreciate the subtle hints of rich maple syrup and smoked bacon that pair so well with no artificial additives.

From a flavor perspective, this one will expand what you thought possible for a cannabis edible. When it comes to flavor, ingredients and quality, Chong’s Choice Wake ‘N’ Bacon Dark Chocolate Bar gets the top grade!

Now if you need smaller doses or don’t like your chocolate with unlikely fillers, the Wake ‘N’ Bacon bar probably isn’t the best option. The pieces are very dense and might require a knife to break down the added chunks inside, making for a mess.

Make sure you note the actual lab-tested THC content when deciding how much you should eat, because it may be different from the other labels on the package. Also, for someone like me who wants to consume the full dose of THC, the chocolate bar is large and rich, making it a challenge to eat the whole thing in one sitting.

    Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

While the taste is unique, how’s the high? As suggested, in small doses this bar can be used for waking and baking, producing a clear high that takes about 30 minutes to set in and will keep you feeling good for hours.

For a regular cannabis consumer, 3-4 pieces (13.5-18 milligrams) should be enough to make you relaxed with enough motivation and focus to get through the day. For newbies, start with 1-2 pieces (4.5-9 milligrams).

Because the chocolate is so rich, it took nearly two hours to finish this big ol’ bar. The effects came on slowly and eased me into a heavy but clear-headed high. I was able to get some work done, but I also took some time to be hypnotized by a bizarre Norwegian knitting competition on Netflix.

It’s not something I’d usually watch, but because of my Chong’s Choice state of mind, I couldn’t look away. The visuals of the yarn spinning wheel, the auditory sensations of a sheep being sheared, and the soft-spoken Norwegian play-by-play were enough to keep me in a trance. So you have that to look forward to.

While this high-end cannabis chocolate bar contains a less-than-average amount of THC, it’s worth the around $22 price considering the unique and filling combo of bacon and waffle.

Nugg Score: How the Nugg Team Rates This Product

    Packaging: 5/5

    • Packaged in a sealed, gold-foil wrapper within a fun but classy and understated box. The box is matte black with glossy graphics of bacon, waffles, and maple syrup.
    • Green band at the bottom makes the flavor variety stand out from the other options.
    • Sealed in a black, child-resistant zip-bag.
    • Graphics mirrored in a sticker, keeping this product well protected and tamper-resistant.

    Labeling: 3/5

    • Enough labeling for adult-use compliance, but not much more.
    • Includes brand name, flavor name and flavor profile, net weight, batch number. Statements of passing lab tests, serving size and amount of servings, amount of THC per serving, total THC and CBD contents.
    • Lab-test sticker shows contradicting cannabinoid contents and labels it at 90.5mg THC (4.5mg THC per serving).
    • I’d like to have seen some info about the strains and extraction method and a way to verify the test results.

    Easy to Dose: 3.5/5

    • Bar is scored to make 20 individual pieces, but the chocolate is thick so breaking it into exact pieces is tough (pro tip: use a hot knife).
    • Chocolate is rich, so eating the entire dose of THC is a challenging featunless you have a stomach of steel.

    Discretion: 3.5/5

    • The large box clearly says “Cannabis Infused,” so this isn’t something you can munch on during a PTA meeting.
    • If you keep the edible in its gold foil, it can easily pass for a large, artisanal chocolate bar.

    Taste: 5/5

    • Made from high-quality dark chocolate; a delicious combination of chocolate, waffle pieces, and maple and bacon flavor with zero cannabis taste.
    • Sweet, salty, savory, and bitter all in one bite.
    • Edible is incredibly rich, so don’t plan on taking more than a few bites at a time.

    Texture: 5/5

    • Texture is what you’d expect from a dark chocolate bar with crunchy waffle pieces.
    • Left zero residue on my hands.

    Effectiveness: 5/5

    • Effects came on slowly and eased me into a heavy but clear-headed high.
    • Got some work done, but I also fell into a delightful trance-like state while watching Netflix.

    Versatility: 3/5

    • Specific flavor combination makes it tricky to melt this chocolate down and add it to many recipes.
    • Pieces might work well on top of cupcakes, ice creamor making s’mores around a campfire.

    Consistency: 4/5

    • Chong’s Choice uses top-of-the-line chocolate by Défoncé Chocolatier.
    • Since the actual THC content is inconsistent with the label and testing results, you may get a little less or more THC than you thought.

    Price: 4/5

    • For $22, this is on the high end of the market.
    • Features a flavor combination you won’t find anywhere else, justifying the price.
    • If you’re looking for something that’s fast and easy to consume with a high THC content, you’d be better off with Punch Edibles Punch-bar.

    Overall Rating: 4.1

The contrasting salty, sweet, bitter and savory taste produce a distinct experience unlike most THC chocolate bars. If you’re a veteran edible consumer or a medical cannabis patient, you’d be more inclined to eat half or the full 90.5mg bar.

And while you may not be as productive with the full dose, you can still partake in creative activities or even make it through that documentary you’ve been meaning to watch.

Just remember: this Wake ‘N’ Bacon bar is filling so make sure you have room; and, despite the pre-divided pieces, it’s difficult to accurately dose since it’s so thick and chunky.

If you’re looking for a quality, distinctly flavored cannabis chocolate and only need a small dose, this is for you. We dig it, man.

  • Rove Tangie .5g Vape Cartridge (2019 Review)

Tangie is a citrusy burst of silly goodness. It’s a wildly popular strain for good reason – it helps you feel like you’ve got friends, like you’ve got this. I love its happy euphoria… a lot. I (vaguely) remember smoking some of this strain out of a glass blunt and sitting by Lake Merritt in Oakland, Cali. It happened to be 4/20 so naturally, everyone was smiling and soaking up the sunshine. People were passing out compliments and snacks. The vibe was perfect. I remember literally rolling down a grassy knoll giggling. It made me happy to be alive. Okay, have I sold you on this strain yet?

Rove wasn’t a company I was initially familiar with. It’s a company that makes some noise about terpenes and their particular significance to the overall cannabis experience. However, the brand leaves me with a lot of questions. For instance, the website says Rove’s 100% organic cannabis is sourced from a collective of farms in their network, but (at the time of this review) they don’t offer any farm names or even location. In this adult rec moment in the cannabis industry, you can’t really get away with not telling me certain key pieces of information. Sourcing is a big part of building brand loyalty, and I’m not sure why Rove isn’t doing it.

But let’s dive into the experience.

  • In this Rove Tangie vape cartridge review, you'll learn about this product's:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

Rove’s packaging is pretty slick, albeit teeny tiny. The cartridge’s black box is small, compact. The cart slides out in a foam cut-out. I’d be worried about damage in a big way with packaging this whimsical.

Unfortunately, this product and carton are not well-labeled. Aside from the logo, which takes up a lot of real estate, there’s strain info and net weight on the bottom of the slide out foam. There’s no testing info, batch number, THC/CBD ration or Prop 64 and 65 warnings.

As for the product itself, it fits the bill with 510-compatible threading and a sleek appearance with a black metal tip to match the box’s orange and black branding. I’m sure there’s a Marvel character out there who would be stoked for this particular style. The cartridge is not labeled with its strain.

    Quality, Ease of Use

The cartridge’s taste matches most other Tangie strains I have tried but it wasn’t as distinct as I had hoped. There was a pleasant citrus “burst” that’s fun on the tongue, but could definitely be “more Tangie.” It felt a bit like Diet Coke of Tangie experiences.

The vapor was kind of basic, to be honest. It was easy on the throat but also didn’t feel like I was “getting anything.” This feeling doesn’t create an optimal smoking experience. You want to feel the cloud leaving your body – that’s the part of the fun. This vape doesn’t leave any sort of coating in your mouth, which I like, except when we’re talking about certain strains. I want a tangerine-y aftertaste that Tangie is known for…and I just didn’t get it with Rove’s cart.

I can see that oil is a nice gold color and it’s pretty chunky. Depending on how you have stored the cartridge, you may need to heat it up to loosen the oil and get it to vaporize. This is not an indicator of bad quality, but rather that Rove didn’t “cut” this product with other additives or oils to make the product thinner.

It’s compatible with most vape batteries that are 510 threaded. Do try to pre-heat it however your battery can to break up some of this thick oil to avoid cracking or it popping back into your mouth. That’s never fun!

    Potency, Effectiveness, Affordability

After a couple of puffs of the Tangie, I slowly started to get a head high and uplifting effects that were perfect for my midday slump. While it doesn’t “taste” as strong as other carts can, the effects were moderate. Moderate, but felt. For a Tangie high, it seemed a little more chill as opposed to the usual energetic Tangie I know and love.

Given that Rove’s Tangie was middle-of-the-road in terms of potency, I’d say it’ll work for people looking for something suitable. Like if you just want a cup of coffee or a run-of-the-mill vape, this will do the trick. It didn’t wow me, but it is still pleasant, don’t get me wrong.

And it’s reasonably priced at $35 for a half a gram. This might be a determining factor for folks who know they want to try Tangie but don’t want to break the bank. It’s also possible that because the company didn’t go crazy on branding and packaging, they’re able to bring consumers a more affordable vaping option. I get that, and I get that this is a costly industry to get traction in right now.

Nugg Score: How the Nugg Team Rates This Product

    Packaging: 2/5

    • Minimalist can be good, but I also want to have faith that it can hold up.
    • Packaging this flimsy risks damage to the product, which ultimately, isn’t great for a consumer who’s invested their hard-earned money and wants a product that’s going to last!

    Labeling: 2/5

    • Too sparse to be trustworthy.
    • Basically just the logo, strain and type and size on the bottom of the slideout.
    • No testing info, THC/CBD info or Prop 64/65 warnings.

    Cartridge Quality: 4/5

    • Meets the industry standard for “nice.”
    • Composed of metal and glass, more durable than plastic and doesn’t clog easily.
    • Becomes warm to the touch after a few longer consecutive draws.

    Taste: 3/5

    • Pleasant but not punchy.
    • Offers a citrusy and sweet taste that’s reminiscent of the strain.
    • Sort of like the Diet Coke of Tangie experiences.

    Vapor Quality: 3/5

    • Smooth and enjoyable, easy on the throat.
    • Not much of a cloud, lacked the thickness I was looking for.
    • Didn’t leave any unwanted taste or feeling in my mouth.

    Oil Quality: 4/5

    • Gold, chunky and fairly thick.
    • Consistency indicates this product is less likely to be “cut” with undesirable additives.
    • May need to heat this cart up in order to loosen the oil and get it to vaporize.

    Effectiveness: 3.5/5

    • Effects were mild but did help lift me up from the mid-day slump.
    • Seemed a bit more relaxes as opposed to the typical energetic effects of Tangie.
    • Didn’t taste as strong as other carts I’ve tried.

    Ease of Use: 4/5

    • Simple to use with a 510 compatible battery.

    Consistency: 4/5

    • This sample worked consistently for me, though it was the first cart I’ve tried from this brand.

    Price: 3.5/5

    • Affordable pricing, which makes it good for someone who wants to try vaping a Tangie strain but doesn’t want to drop serious dough to do so.

    Overall: 3.3

Rove’s Tangie cartridge is made of high-quality glass with a metal tip that doesn’t clog easily and offers a smooth vapor that’s easy on the throat and lungs. The taste is very similar to other Tangie strains, defined by a sweet and citrusy flavor. The effects were moderate and more relaxing than energetic. Higher-tolerance users, skip this one. However, for new cannabis users or consumers who want something mild, this cartridge is a good option for a mid-day pick-me-up. Just don’t expect too much information about the actual product.

Old Pal Blue Dream (Sativa-Dominant Hybrid)

Blue Dream is a sativa-dominant hybrid that balances a dreamy cerebral psychoactivity with full-body relaxation. This strain is a favorite amongst novice and connoisseurs alike, enjoying its uplifting and gentle euphoria perfect for a long hike or getting things done around the house. Its revitalizing yet calm effects make it a popular daytime medicine for patients seeking relief from stress, pain, depression, nausea, and fatigue.

Old Pal products come in three varieties: Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid. They’ve found that the market of super-specific strains with new, quirky names is leading people away from the simple enjoyment of cannabis. Old Pal simply focuses on the three varieties while ensuring a quality product every time.

    Henry’s Sherbert (Hybrid)

The perfect strain to cap off a busy day, Sherbet possesses similar genetics to its parent Girl Scout Cookies, and puts out equally gorgeous and potent flower. With dark purple buds that glisten in a sticky coat of trichomes, this powerful and picturesque flower will impress even the snobbiest of cannabis connoisseurs. A sour citrus, almost skunky aroma tends to escape even tightly closed containers, but the effects make up for what it lacks in discretion! An initial cerebral energy kicks off the effects with psychoactivity and euphoria, but soon a deep physical relaxation takes over with a pleasant numbness and warmth. Best reserved for evening shenanigans, Sherbet won’t put you right to sleep, but it may have you struggling to get off the couch. Many seek out Sherbet for its ability to induce appetite and alleviate pain and stress.

Handcrafted in small batches, Henry’s Original provides clean green certified cannabis grown out of sunny Mendocino county. Their 100% Heirloom flower is grown with the utmost care by expert cultivators using all-organic soil and every batch is lab tested at ISO certified laboratories to ensure consistency and quality through every stage of the process. Henry’s Original believes our families, friends, and neighbors should have access to organically-grown cannabis straight from the farm.

    Ocean Purple Punch (Indica)

A delicious heavy hitting indica, Purple Punch has all the limb numbing relaxation of its pacifying parents Granddaddy Purple and Larry OG. With a crystal coat of trichomes blanketing each bud, this strain looks as good as it smells, emanating a fruity grape and berry aroma. Purple Punch starts with a cerebral buzz that quickly moves to the body, ending in total sedation that will leave you with heavy limbs and eyelids. Usually reserved for an evening luxury, this strain is great for alleviating chronic pain and stress as well as insomnia, with most sessions ending in a quiet dreamy slumber.

Ocean Cannabis Company has a mission to develop the cleanest and highest quality cannabis and concentrates around. Their premium cannabis and natural flavor profiles are unrivaled in purity, quality, and potency, creating a truly one of a kind experience. A local Los Angeles Cannabis company, the owners started Ocean Cannabis Company to meet the need for premium, natural cannabis with a commitment to quality that only a small family business can provide.

  • NUG Gorilla Glue #4 (2019 Review)

I’ll let you in on a secret about me: I enjoy smoking a nice sativa-hybrid to get my day going when I know it’s going to be busy. For me, the slight sativa dominance gets my heart pumping and it turns the switch of my mind to an “on” position. But the hybrid status also helps slow my thoughts, and bring me to the present. A sativa-hybrid jump start to my day is always a pleasant way to get things going.

Because of this, I’m always on the hunt for a great new sativa-dominant flower. There are some standout strain genetics that I’ve tried throughout the years, including GG4 (formerly known as Gorilla Glue #4). This original strain was named as such because its trichome-rich buds were said to leave your fingers so sticky, it felt like you had covered them in glue. And I’ve always been a huge fan of this strain’s earthy flavor.

So when I came across NUG’s version of GG4, I immediately knew I should give it a shot. I feel like I see the NUG brand in every dispensary I walk into, whether it’s their chocolate bars or their indoor-grown flower. And this makes sense, considering this brand has prolific distribution in California’s dispensaries, just take a look at the map of where to find NUG products on their site. With that kind of reach, I’m optimistic about this strain and I am excited to try NUG’s GG4 for a daytime pick-me-up. Let’s see if I’m right.

  • In this NUG GG4 strain review, you'll learn about this product's:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

When it comes to packaging, let’s just say I’m underwhelmed by what NUG has to offer. The generic, flat, plastic, child-resistant zip bag leaves much to be desired. A brand logo and rectangular strain sticker with a half sun and moon, I assume signifying day and nighttime use, adorn the clear plastic panel that makes up the front of the bag. Through it, I see the flower inside and I can tell it’s been flattened. I can’t help but assume that’s because this plastic packaging offers little as far as protection goes.

Despite the seal across the top, some of the strain’s pungent aroma seeps through. Generally speaking, packaging should lock the aroma inside and this plastic bag clearly isn’t cutting it. And then the real kicker… as I gingerly open the package, the zipper detaches from one side of the bag, leaving me with no way to reseal it. Luckily, I have glass jars sitting around the house so I move the buds there for safer and more effective storage.

I’m disappointed to see a lot of trichome residue left in the plastic bag, but not surprised. The static in plastic bags sheers the trichomes from the buds, which is why it makes so little sense to pack cannabis flower inside of them. And since GG4’s claim to fame is trichome density, I’m sad to see so much of it go to waste.

The product labeling includes all the basics required by Adult Use laws, but that’s about it. I’m always interested in learning more about the strain, a brand’s specific growing techniques, and a full cannabinoid content breakdown. All three of these details were missing.

    Quality and Ease of Use

Okay, so the packaging fails to elicit any excitement out of me, but now we’re on to bigger and better things. I pull out the bright green buds (there are around 11 available) and sort them in my hand. I immediately notice it looks like these flowers came from two different plants. One half looks fluffy, less dense, and more brightly colored than the other. Half of the buds are tight, dense, and a darker shade of green with a heavier coating of glittering trichomes. The other half is light green and significantly less dense. From a consistency perspective, this is less than ideal. But both types of buds have an unbelievably pungent and earthy aroma that overwhelms my need for visual consistency. This strain smells fantastic!

I choose a one gram bud, the largest of the bunch, and break it down for my grinder. Despite the trichome residue left in the bag, I am happy with the glistening layer still attached to the outside of the bud. And sure enough, the GG4 stickiness comes through and layers my finger pads with a slight residue.

The ground flower is so sticky it’s easily malleable and forms into a perfect joint. I’ve got an overwhelming day ahead, so as I light this joint up, I’m hopeful that it’ll give me the jumpstart I need, but without the paranoia or anxiety that straight sativas sometimes produce.

Upon the first puff, the smooth, creamy smoke caresses my throat but doesn’t make me cough. After a few hits, it does increase in intensity and harshness, but it still overall a very pleasant and easy smoke. And the inviting, earthy, sweet flavor keeps me going back for another puff. This strain is absolutely delicious, tasting just as the aroma would suggest. The ash flakes off in clean, soft, white residue… exactly what I’m looking for while smoking a joint.

    Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

Sometimes a soaring high THC content overwhelms me more than it helps, making my heart race and anxiety levels to rise. This is not something I am looking for in a strain to help me kick start my day. The label tells me this NUG GG4 strain has a total THC content of 167.27 mg/grams, which is solid but not extreme. So I am not surprised when the effects hit me just right.

After three hits in a few seconds, my body relaxes but my head and eyes don’t. It feels like I am perfectly tuned to jump into my day, with a calm mind, alert eyes, and a body that feels like I just meditated for 20 minutes. When it comes to a daytime strain to help calm nerves and ease discomfort without putting me to sleep, this NUG GG4 is creeping up to the top of my list.

And the price gives this strain an added bonus. Set at $40 for an eighth of this pungently aromatic strain, with crave-worthy tastiness and well-tuned effects, I would absolutely buy it again. That being said, I’d even pay a couple of extra dollars more for packaging that is more worthy of the high-quality bud housed inside.

Nugg Score: How the Nugg Team Rates This Product

    Packaging: 1.5/5

    • Package is a generic, flat, plastic, child-resistant zip bag.
    • Clear front window allows me to see the cannabis inside.
    • Flower appears flattened, so thin plastic doesn’t offer much protection.
    • Zipper detached from one of the sides upon opening, so there was no way to reseal.

    Labeling: 3/5

    • Labeling is limited, just enough for Adult Use compliance.
    • Address-sized label includes the amount of THC (167.276mg/g) and CBD (ND), batch ID, package date, net weight, date of manufacture, strain name, and passing lab test results with a web address to verify them.
    • I would like to see more info on the cannabinoid content, maybe a flavor description or terpene profile, some information on how it was grown, and/or a strain description.

    Aroma: 5/5

    • Beautiful fragrance hits my nose as soon as I open the bag.
    • Uniquely pungent, sweet and earthy.

    Taste: 4.5/5

    • Tastes just like it smells: beautiful.
    • Develops the slightest metallic taste towards the end of your joint/bowl, though, nothing that would deter me.

    Texture: 4/5

    • Buds are the perfect humidity level and they’re sticky and fresh feeling.
    • Half of the flowers are formed with a nice density and tightness, the other half are fluffy.
    • At least one bud weighed out to 1 gram, the rest were medium-sized.

    Quality of Smoke: 4/5

    • Smoke was overall smooth, but it can get slightly harsh after the first few hits.

    Ash Test: 5/5

    • Clean, soft, white ash.

    Effectiveness: 5/5

    • Relaxing body effects with a clear head and eyes that don’t feel droopy.
    • Labeled as a hybrid, the GG#4 strain has the best qualities of both indica and sativa.
    • Wonderful strain to ease your pain and calm your nerves during the day, without heavy sedative effects.

    Consistency: 2/5

    • While they both have the same taste, smell, pleasure, and sticky quality, it seems half of the buds in this bag are of a different structure and are lighter in color than the other half.
    • Not what I want to see in the same package, but both were a pleasure to smoke.

    Price: 4/5

    • At $40 an eighth for a pleasurable smoke that’s sticky, smells amazing and tastes good, this is a pretty good price.
    • If the consistency within the package was there, and the packaging was of a higher quality, I would have rated it at a 5.

    Overall Rating: 3.8

I thoroughly enjoyed this GG4’s epic aroma, flavor, and effects. I could use this strain any day. These are the most important aspects of a cannabis flower to me. But there were a few aspects that significantly affected the overall rating, the most glaring being the packaging. I would love to see NUG create packaging that matches the quality of their amazing product rather than a sad, plastic bag with a faulty zipper.

  • Moon 100mg THC Blasted Toffee Hybrid Chocolate Bar (2019 Review)

I huddled under my umbrella walking into the gym before work. It was leg day so I knocked out some leg presses and lunges before getting ready for my first meeting. Just after I got out of the shower, I received an email that the meeting had been postponed, meaning that I didn’t have to go into the office. Suddenly gifted with a whole day to fill, and soreness setting into my legs, I went to my favorite dispensary looking for edibles. That was when I first tried Moon 100mg THC Blasted Toffee Hybrid Chocolate Bar.

Its celestial themed packaging catches the eye and, about 30 minutes after a dose, I understood why. Not only does it taste great but the high is balanced and subtle. This bar shares many characteristics with its Instagram page: it’s artistically designed and other-worldly with a sprinkle of a psychedelic vibe.

But don’t just take my word for it, keep reading for my in-depth review of the Moon 100mg THC Blasted Toffee Hybrid Chocolate Bar.

  • In this Moon Blasted Toffee Hybrid Chocolate Bar review, you'll learn about this product's:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Packaging, Labeling and Product Design

The packaging for Moon bars stands out on any shelf. The intergalactic font and modern text box overlay a background reminiscent of a storm on the moon with thick cumulus clouds and a crater-field and desolate horizon – all tinted orange. The back of the resealable package displays nutritional facts surrounded by multiple compliance warnings: one that the product is meant for people 21 years and older, one that it contains products known to cause cancer, birth defects and reproductive harm, one stating that nuts were used in the equipment to make the bar, and a final one stating that the chocolate bar contains milk.

The packaging also outlines how many doses are included in a single bar (10), social media handles, ingredients and a scale broken down into 10mg segments identifying the proper amount for a dosage. It also includes stickers identifying that the chocolate bar is lab tested, denoting the manufactured date, date packaged and the “Best By” Date, complete with ID numbers for the lab sample, the lot and the tester.

At the bottom, it recommends to eat one serving (10mg) and then wait 45 minutes for the effects to kick in.

Once you open the packaging, you’ll notice the long, milk chocolate-colored bar broken down into doses. It looks sort of like one of those long Tootsie Rolls but more firm and with “THC” engraved on each of the ten doses. This product looks like a traditional chocolate bar, making it easy to confuse for any other chocolate bar, cannabis-infused or not. This makes it easy to keep discreet and take on the go without worry.

One thing that the packaging lacks is what exactly to expect. Beyond THC, toffee and chocolate being included, it doesn’t provide a terpene profile explaining what kind of taste or effects to anticipate.

    Quality and Ease of Use

Once you bite into the bar, it has a smooth dark chocolate taste that’s not overbearing. As someone who doesn’t particularly like dark chocolate, the blend of chocolate, toffee and earthiness is perfect and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Enhanced even more by proper refrigeration, the Moon bar is easy to handle and doesn’t leave an oily residue. It’s also not overly dry which is crucial to enjoying any chocolate product.

    Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

I started with one dosage to gauge whether or not I needed more, given my low tolerance for edibles, and I didn’t. After eating just 10mg, the high started to set in and I’d say that even those with a more mature edible tolerance would enjoy.

Black hole – Even as a lightweight edible consumer with a slight disdain for dark chocolate, this bar delivered beyond my expectations.

I broke the dosage into five small bites and, after about 30 minutes, it really started to kick in. My eyelids dropped, my sore legs grew heavier and I started to feel like a rogue comet and the corner of my couch was a black hole. Every muscle in my body relaxed, from the tiny muscles in my face, to my shoulders, down to my feet which I couldn’t muster up the energy to take out of my shoes. Overall, I felt similar to the effects of indica flower but much more subtle.

While I ate the chocolate bar directly, it can easily be used as a drink ingredient as well. I’d like to try it in a post-workout protein shake and it would also be good in a hot chocolate on a cold, rainy day. It can also be used in food recipes. It would make a for a great chocolate sauce to drizzle over a pastry like a croissant or turnover. You could also break the bar in two and create an enjoyable s’mores experience with that earthy-chocolate flavor. I purchased three total packages and, while all were similar in size and taste, the potency does differ slightly by batch.

At a price point of $20, the Moon 100mg Blasted Toffee Hybrid Chocolate Bar is a good value. With ten doses per bar, that equates to $2 each making it well worth the price, especially since one dosage makes for such a smooth body high. Even though there’s a lot of competition between cannabis-infused chocolate bars, this one stands out on the shelf and the taste and effectiveness all contribute to why it’s a great option.
