Where Can I Buy CBD Edibles?

If you’re trying to buy CBD edibles in the state of California, you’ll need to have your CA medical marijuana recommendation/card before you can legally purchase. Even though CBD doesn’t have any psychotropic effects and won’t get you “high” (that’s caused by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)), you’ll still need a doctor’s written approval to purchase CBD infused cannabis products.

In California? Click here to order cannabis delivery online from dispensaries in your area. Choose from thousands of products, compare prices, and get doorstep delivery in about an hour!

But don’t worry, getting your doctor’s recommendation is easy, and NuggMD makes it even easier. Use NuggMD’s online evaluation services to get both your medical marijuana recommendation and ID card online in less than 15 minutes!

In California, the only legal place to get any kind of edibles is directly from a dispensary storefront or delivery service. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get products shipped to you by mail from dispensaries, only via courier hand-delivery.

Likewise, CBD edible companies can’t legally sell their products directly to patients; instead, these California companies only sell their products wholesale directly to medical marijuana dispensaries.

But you might be wondering, where can I get the best CBD products? You can use search engines like Google and Weedmaps, or save yourself the trouble and order through the world’s largest online cannabis delivery marketplaceNugg.

Use this simple online delivery service and have CBD chocolates, CBD candy, CBD gummies, and other CBD infused products quickly delivered to your home address. And, if you’ve used NuggMD to become a legal marijuana patient, you’ll instantly get $20 for your first delivery!

Watch out for anyone or any company claiming to send edibles through standard mail, UPS or FedEx. Not only do you risk getting inferior products, it’s illegal and you could risk prosecution.

Cannabis CBD vs. Hemp CBD: Buyer Beware

There are two different types of CBD, but each isn’t created equal. Cannabis CBD is extracted from CBD rich plant material and is used to treat a variety of medical conditions like epilepsy, depression and inflammation. The key is a balance of high CBD and low THC, or a lower, equal ratio of CBD and THC.

CBD Medical

On the other hand, hemp CBD is used in the creation of industrial goods like paper, rope and clothing, and contains an extremely small amount of CBD, not enough to be considered medically beneficial.

Beware of sites like healthyhempoil.com, ushempwholesale.com and buycbd.co that sell hemp CBD edibles claiming healing properties. Remember, these online retailers sell hemp oil seed derived CBD edibles “legally and internationally” that serve no recreational or medicinal purposes.

Not only will these CBD products provide you with no medicinal benefits, the distribution of CBD remains illegal, no matter what form it takes. Companies with access to hemp oil have an agricultural license for maintaining and harvesting hemp crops for industrial purposes. In order to do so, they must have permits and abide by strict regulations.

Unfortunately, the DEA considers all extracts of cannabis to be a Schedule I substance, so you’re much better off going through an established medical marijuana dispensary or delivery service for your high CBD edibles.

What’s the Difference Between THC & CBD Edibles?

THC and CBD are two cannabinoids that work together, have different individual effects, and can be used in different ratios to treat different symptoms. Generally, if you’re using cannabis medicinally, you’ll find most products are high in THC and relatively low in CBD; but that’s not to say each product category doesn’t have its fair share of CBD-dominant products.

THC heals your body while giving you that pleasant, psychoactive “high” feeling, and activates both of the internal cannabinoid receptors found in the body, CB1 and CB2. The CB1 receptors are located throughout the brain, central nervous system, and corresponding organs; CB2 receptors are related to a person’s immune system and located in organs like the spleen and tonsils.

Unlike THC, CBD is a potent healer that won’t get you high, and doesn’t have much bonding affinity to either the CB1 or CB2 receptors. Instead it counteracts the psychotropic effects of THC like anxiety and paranoia by blocking THC at the CB1 receptor, nulling its psychoactive effects.

It also benefits the body’s protective endocannabinoid response by suppressing the enzyme that breaks down one the body’s own cannabinoids, anandamide. The more anandamide, the greater the cannabinoid activation will be.

THC to CBD Balance Matters

CBD Candy

Different ratios of the two cannabinoids produce different effective treatments. Charlotte’s Web is a high CBD/low THC strain (20:1 CBD:THC) used for treating seizures; Harlequin (5:2 CBD:THC) is used for chronic pain and anxiety; and ACDC (22:1 CBD:THC) helps treat people suffering from pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, and the negative effects of chemotherapy.

How Safe Is Buying CBD Edibles?

Whether you order edibles online or in-person, the process can be simple, safe, and easy. As long as you make your purchase through a storefront or delivery service, the only thing you have to worry about is the quality and accuracy of your order.

High CBD products are ideal if you’re trying to play it safe, as the high amount of CBD will take away any of THC’s unwanted psychoactive effects. The more CBD you take, the less likely you are to get the munchies, have lapses in memory, become drowsy, or experience anything like being “stoned.”

Brand Name CBD Edibles

Although there are many types of California edibles out there, only a few brand name CBD edibles like Kiva, Sensi Chew, Bhang, Cheeba Chew and their offshoot Green Hornet provide detailed information about their products, making sure that all ingredients are safe for consumption. They’re lab tested and thoroughly reviewed by both doctors and patients.

CBD Capsules

When looking at CBD edible brand names, be sure to look thoroughly for a list of ingredients, THC:CBD ratio, strength, and do some research on the product before you buy a CBD edible that might be lacking in quality or efficacy.

Dispensary-Made CBD Edibles

If you do come across any dispensary-made edibles, they typically don’t come with much product information, much less the CBD dosage. Not knowing what’s in them doesn’t exactly mean that they’re dangerous, but consuming a product you know nothing about isn’t exactly safe either, and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Use personal discretion when making purchases both in-person and online. You should be cautious of products that are personally or carelessly packaged if you’re unfamiliar with the dispensary. If you’re not sure about about the edibles’ quality, don’t make a foolish purchase! You’re better safe than sorry.

How Much Are CBD Edibles?

Just like buying MMJ, the price of CBD chews, lollipops, drops and other CBD candies depends on a slew of individual factors, mostly related to cannabis content ratios and culinary craftsmanship.

For example, Bhang has made a candy-like mint mouth spray and chewing gum for people who want to be discrete, and Venice Cookie Company Brands produces a variety of artisanal vegan edibles, organic, gluten-free, sugar-free, and health-centric CBD edibles alongside their already booming selection, including the sugar-free, vegan CBD Zinger cookie and cane sugar hard candies.

For the most part, you don’t want to spend more than $10 per 100mg of a CBD-infused edible product.

Where can I get CBD edibles? Look into what your local medical marijuana dispensaries offer. You’ll usually find first time patient offers, happy hours, other great deals, and competitive prices for various products. Both dispensary storefronts and delivery services offer all sorts of deals, but placing a delivery order can be a bit more expensive.

What Are the Best CBD Edibles?

The best CBD edibles really depend on what you’re looking for. Some THC:CBD ratios are better for specific medical needs; some might be healthier or more appetizing; and others could simply be out of your price range.

You also might’ve noticed that there isn’t a wide selection of CBD dominant edibles to choose compared to all of those seemingly endless THC dominant goodies. But the good news is their popularity is growing! The most popular brand names on the cannabis market already carry some seriously amazing treats..

The most common CBD edibles are chocolates, cookies, and chewy taffy, but some brands carry specialty products like candies, gums, and even drinks.

  • MMJ Doctor Online Review (WARNING: Service May Be Illegitimate)

MMJ Doctor Online is an online medical marijuana evaluation site, where California residents can supposedly be assessed by a state licensed doctor to get a doctor’s recommendation and MMJ ID card for medical cannabis. Their platform appears to be similar to other online evaluation services online (like our own, NuggMD), but deviates in several ways from legal standards and best practices.

This MMJ Doctor Online review will explain their entire online process, what you as a consumer should be aware/skeptical of, and if you should choose them for your medical cannabis needs. (While we do offer a competing service, we intend for this to be an honest and unbiased review of the company.)

TIP: our prices for both a doctor’s recommendation and MMJ ID card are 20% cheaper than those offered by MMJdoctoronline.com. Click here to start your evaluation with NuggMD.

  •

    Is MMJ Doctor Online Legit?

On the surface, MMJ Doctor Online’s virtual evaluation process to get a doctor’s recommendation or to renew your existing medical cannabis recommendation looks pretty comparable to many other online MMJ doctors. However, there’s one major difference: there is no patient-doctor interaction. In fact, it appears to be a “pay to play” site, meaning you fill out the information, pay a fee, and are instantly approved.

Anyone who cares about getting a valid and legal medical cannabis card should be very wary of this. California tele-health laws explicitly state that a doctor-patient interaction must occur for the standards of a “good-faith examination” to be met.

While MMJ Doctor Online is theoretically one of our competitors, we will strive to be unbiased in our estimation of their service and base our review on their process, California law, our experience with their site, and most important of all, customer reviews.

During the course of this article, we’ll take you through how MMJ Doctor Online works, and will compare the service side-by-side with our own online platform, NuggMD, which also offers you the opportunity to get your medical cannabis recommendation and card in under 20 minutes.

    MMJ Doctor Online Application Process

    Step 1: Create Account

    MMJ Doctor Online Review

The mmjdoctoronline.com process begins by creating an account. You start by entering for which state you need a recommendation (they list quite a few states, but they really only offer the service for California and Nevada which makes the large list a bit misleading).

You then provide your email, a password, and a phone number.  They then text you a pin number which you have to input at the next screen in order to move forward in the process.

    Step 2: Select a Package

    MMJ Doctor Online Promo Code

Next, before entering any information, you choose the package you want.  The “Recommendation Only” package is $49 and just includes the recommendation.  The “Recommendation + ID” package for $69 includes the recommendation and photo ID card (commonly referred to as a medical marijuana card).

The “Grower’s Recommendation” package runs $149 and includes everything in the Recommendation + ID package with the addition of authorization to grow an additional 99 plants and possess 8 ounces or more.

These packages are similar to sites like NuggMD, though MMJ Doctor Online does have a higher price-point. After choosing your package, you must upload your driver’s license or state ID card in order to verify you are at least 18 years of age or older, and thus, eligible for California’s medical marijuana program.

    Step 3: Medical History

    Is MMJ Doctor Online Legit?

Now you move onto entering your medical history, a short step that requires very little detail.

The information you provide gives the doctor an idea of why you are requesting an evaluation for cannabis, but serves as the only information for which the doctor will evaluate your eligibility, since you won’t actually meet with one face to face or over the phone.

Just for comparison’s sake, NuggMD lets you decide if you want to provide additional information about your condition, but doesn’t require it. We know you may want to keep that information between you and your recommending doctor, and that’s just fine, since you’re actually able to discuss such information during your evaluation with a live doctor.

But back to MMJ Doctor. The conditions area is also noticeably missing an “Other Conditions” box, which other sites offer in order to accommodate patients whose condition might not be listed.

After all, an “Other Condition” box is a way that people without specifically identified conditions might be qualified to use medical marijuana, since the verbiage of Proposition 215 states that a recommendation may be issued for “any condition or symptom for which marijuana might provide relief.”

There is also no mention of family history or substance abuse on this medical history form, which lends to it being incomplete and potentially irresponsible, especially since patients will not actually talk to the recommending doctor.

    Step 4: Additional Services

Next, you move to the additional services section where you can order extra cards, etc. But here’s where things get sketchy. The site gives you the option of changing your recommendation date, allowing you the option of post-dating the recommendation.

    MMJ Doctor Online Yelp

They must have known we would be curious about changing the date because they have a little info box called “Why do I change the date?”

We were pretty surprised by the information it contained. That made us feel like this may not be on the up-and-up.  California law is very specific about the length of the recommendation and the requirement for the issue date to remain the same as the date of a patient’s evaluation.

Legitimate? We’ll let you be the judge.

    Step 5: Payment

Finally, you enter your payment information and place your order. Like many other sites, MMJ Doctor Online takes Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express and is processed with a PCI-compliant payment processor. You’ll also only be charged once your recommendation is approved.

    Step 6: Wait

Whether mmjdoctoronline.com actually employs doctors to review your application for medical marijuana will likely remain a mystery, but let’s assume they do have real licensed doctors at the other end of your application submission. They’ll review your case within 10-20 minutes based on the information you provided. Upon approval, you will receive an electronic, temporary copy of your medical cannabis recommendation.

Receiving Your Doctor’s Recommendation & Card

You will receive an electronic copy of your recommendation immediately, and then you will receive a physical or hard copy in the mail within 1-4 days according to the website (depending on where you look, they quote different time frames), though many Yelp! reviewers have waited weeks to receive it.

Ouch. That can be a major bummer if you’re in need of meds.

And another thing to watch out for. Your recommendation and card will not have an embossed seal, which almost all California dispensaries require.

Many reviewers have had to go through the entire process again (spending more time and more money) with a site like NuggMD, which does provide an embossed seal, to be able to purchase cannabis in the dispensaries.

IMPORTANT: Many dispensaries in California are under the impression that an embossed seal is required on your doctor’s recommendation; however, California state law does not legally require this. Even so, having a recommendation with an embossed seal assures that you’ll be granted access to any and all California dispensaries.

    MMJ Doctor Online Customer Reviews

When turning to online reviews to determine the quality of service provided by the company, we looked at their Yelp page, Facebook page, Weedmaps pages, and discussions found on Reddit and elsewhere on the web to make a best judgement.

The remarks provided by Yelp reviewers and others range from very happy to very dissatisfied. While the overall average of the reviews is high, there are a few things a careful cannabis consumer should be wary of with this service.

In repeated reviews, there were complaints about the timeliness of the card’s arrival. Several cards have been two or more weeks late, and customer service is unwilling to give a guaranteed delivery date or offer something else to “make it right,” despite the site’s supposed 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Other customers didn’t receive their electronic copies immediately (or even within days) and were either treated rudely by customer service representatives, or weren’t contacted at all.

Some reviewers also were not able to use their card or recommendation because it did not have an embossed seal. MMJ Doctor Online also promotes price-matching, but several reviews mention that they would not match other comparable sites.

    Notice a pattern?

Unfortunately, there were also many five-star reviews that looked as though they may fake, although it’s tough to tell these days with nearly all online businesses having some percentage of fake reviews. We came to this conclusion after taking a look at the reviewers, most of whose profiles do not have a picture, friends, or other reviews written (or came from an account with just one or two). Some of the reviews also sound very “salesy.” Be wary.

Any Promo Codes, Discounts, or Referral Bonuses?

Yes and no. While a Google search will bring up potential codes, further research concluded many of them are from 2016 and have a low or no percentage of success.

The company also doesn’t appear to have any partnerships with local dispensaries.

In addition to delivery services and a $20 first-time credit, NuggMD works with dispensaries who offer fabulous freebies and promotions to NuggMD clients.

Is There a Better Option for Getting an MMJ Card?

    HelloMD Renewal

While MMJ Doctor Online does offer 420 evaluations and recommendations, it does so without any patient-doctor interaction. Instead, you fill out a form and are instantly approved, which frankly, is 100% illegal.

Even though we’re tooting our own horn here, we strongly recommend you use a site like NuggMD for your medical marijuana evaluation needs. We give you access to a state-licensed, pro-medical marijuana doctor to complete your evaluation in a confidential and 100% legal manner.

You’ll be able to talk to a doctor in real-time, ask questions, and determine if cannabis is the right choice for you, and we have customer support staff online every day from 8am-10pm to help answer any questions or quell any concerns you might have about the process. Just click on the blue bubble icon in the bottom-right corner of our site to chat live with our staff!

NuggMD also provides raised, embossed seals on your recommendation so that you can shop with confidence that your documentation is entirely legal and will be accepted by every California dispensary.

Did we mention NuggMD is also cheaper? We offer recommendations for just $49, and a recommendation + ID card package for $59. But get this. You can recoup half the cost of your recommendation just by choosing to order delivery afterwards, since by using NuggMD, you’re automatically credited with $20 to order from any dispensary found on Getnugg.com!

So there you have it. While MMJ Doctor Online has certainly served a number of patients seeking doctor recommendations for cannabis, we aren’t quite convinced they do so in a legal, friendly, or efficient manner. But we’ll let you be the judge of that.

  • HelloMD Review: A Must-Read Before Getting Your MMJ Card!

HelloMD is a digital healthcare platform for the cannabis industry. Through their website and app, California patients can connect with a doctor to get a medical cannabis recommendation over live video (telehealth), and subsequently gain access to cannabis products, dispensaries, and advice on medicinal efficacy.

Their platform is similar in many respects to other technology startups like NuggMD, so in this HelloMD review we’ll discuss what makes the company unique, and where they fall short compared to the competition.

  •

    About HelloMD

As a brief background, the company has been around since 2014 and is certainly one of the first of its kind (you can find numerous questions about HelloMD on Reddit dating back before any other similar service), although recent reports suggest the company may already be facing some uphill battles.

This new service provides existing and soon-to-be patients with a community forum to find questions and answers related to medical marijuana. There, medical professionals as well as cannabis brands and patients alike can provide answers to questions posed by users. Not a bad idea, and it’ll be interesting to see how well their forum-style approach serves cannabis patients.

But for the sake of our HelloMD review, let’s concentrate on the main service they provide, which is to help people become legal medical marijuana patients.

Getting a HelloMD Doctor’s Recommendation Online

Besides the fact that HelloMD has its own app for iOS, their online evaluation process to get a doctor’s recommendation is fairly standard and similar to all other online MMJ doctors. But, there are some differences.

Throughout this review article and as we walk you through how HelloMD works, we’ll be comparing the service side-by-side with NuggMD, our own online platform which lets you get your medical cannabis recommendation and card in about 10 minutes.

    Step 1: Signup

The HelloMD process begins simply by providing some basic personal information, most notably the address to which you’d like your doctor’s recommendation sent to. It’s nice to note that the company offers a live-chat feature in the bottom-right of the screen, which you can click to initiate a conversation with one of their staff.

NuggMD does the same, and while we’ve yet to perform any extended tests to see which company produces faster response times during various hours of the day, it’s safe to say that through both services you’ll be able to get quick answers to your questions.

Step 2: Fill out a Medical Questionnaire

During the second step, you’re asked to fill out a brief medical questionnaire, which will help inform the doctor why you’re seeking an evaluation for cannabis. While the questionnaire lists only a limited number of conditions (those expressly defined by California’s Proposition 215), there is an additional “Other Condition” option.

It’s important to note here that selecting “Other Condition” is perfectly alright, and shouldn’t decrease your chances of being approved for medical marijuana on HelloMD or NuggMD, as even the co-authors of Prop 215 have been quoted saying that the language used in the law was made to be “deliberately liberal,” such that anyone in California would be able to gain access to medical cannabis for “any condition or symptom for which marijuana might provide relief.”

After providing some information about your condition (a detailed explanation is required, and you won’t be able to continue without providing one), HelloMD extends the process to include questions about your family’s medical history and substance abuse (if any).

In comparison, NuggMD gives you the option to provide detailed information about your condition, but doesn’t require it, as we believe this information is something that should be kept completely private between you and the doctor if you so wish.

    Step 3: Upload a Photo

After completing the medical questionnaire, you’re asked to either upload or take a photo of your face, which will be used for your medical marijuana ID card. The card itself is simply a smaller, wallet-sized representation of your doctor’s recommendation and, while it’s convenient for repeat dispensary visits, it’s actually NOT accepted for the first time you visit most dispensaries. Instead, you’ll have to present the official paper copy of your recommendation which comes with an embossed seal.

    Step 4: Upload an Identification

After uploading a photo of your face, you’re asked to upload a photo ID (to verify that you meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years old). For both HelloMD and NuggMD, this can be a driver’s license or Passport, and both services offer the option of uploading the photo for you if you’re having trouble uploading it.

Also the same for both services is the fact that HelloMD will allow you to get your recommendation even if you’re from out of state. Since we were only able to test the service from California, we’re unsure whether they mail recommendations out of state, or require that it be delivered to an in-state address, given that the recommendation is only valid for use within California. With NuggMD, you can rest easy knowing that we can send your recommendation to any U.S. address.

    Step 5: Provide Payment Information

After uploading photos of yourself and your identification, HelloMD takes you to the final payment screen, where you’re asked to enter your credit card information.

By contrast, NuggMD will take you to an additional “Choose Your Package” screen, where you’ll be asked to select from three package options, either selecting just a recommendation letter, a recommendation + ID card, or a grower’s recommendation, which grants you the ability to grow up to 99 plants (not offered by HelloMD).

Both services use a secure payment processor that accept Visa, Discover, and Mastercard for payment, so you should never worry about your credit information being tampered with.

One major apparent difference between the two services is that while HelloMD charges you outright $49 for the consultation regardless of being approved or not, NuggMD doesn’t actually charge your card unless approved by the doctor for medical cannabis, and if you are denied, the consultation is 100% free.

So for those with any inkling of doubt that they might be denied for medical cannabis, NuggMD may be the preferable option. Another significant difference is the price itself. While HelloMD charges $49 for a doctor’s recommendation and ID card, NuggMD charges just $49 for a doctor’s recommendation.

Step 6: Have a Telehealth Consultation with a Doctor

    HelloMD Discount Codes

Once you’ve submitted your payment information, you’re entered into an online queue, after which you’ll receive a video call from the doctor. While each service uses different video platforms to deliver their consultations, the process is quite the same. Once face-to-face with a doctor, you’re asked about your medical condition and the information you provided in your medical questionnaire.

The doctor may take the time to ask you additional questions about your condition, but mostly he’ll seek to explain how cannabis should be appropriately used as a treatment for your condition or symptoms.

Of course, if you have specific questions yourself, we’ve found all HelloMD doctors to be very helpful and knowledgeable on the medicinal uses of cannabis for a variety of conditions, just as you’d expect when speaking with a doctor from NuggMD. After consulting with the doctor, you’ll be approved and can expect your recommendation and ID card to arrive in the mail after just a few days.

Additionally, you can expect to receive an electronic copy of your recommendation pretty much immediately after you’re approved, which in some instances will allow you to purchase cannabis the same-day!

With the temporary electronic copy, you’re able to order delivery online from sites like Getnugg.com, OR you can try printing the e-recommendation out and using it to walk into a dispensary storefront. If you opt for the latter method, we highly recommend you call ahead to the dispensary to confirm they’ll accept your temporary recommendation!

When turning to online reviews to determine the quality of service provided by HelloMD, one will find nothing but positive remarks. The company even advertises on its site that they’re the “#1 ranked company in Health & Wellness” on TrustPilot, where indeed they have upwards of 3,000 reviews that are overwhelmingly positive.

While HelloMD’s ratings across the board are very high (and thus suggest it is a service you can trust), the only site we could find reviews on was TrustPilot, and scattered remarks on the various Reddit threads mentioning the company. It seems that HelloMD does not have a Yelp page.

Any HelloMD Promo Codes, Discounts, or Referral Bonuses?

Yes, and no. While online customer reviews do reveal that promo codes exist for HelloMD, they’re only attainable by finding a dispensary with which HelloMD has partnered with. Unfortunately the company doesn’t provide a list of dispensaries with which they’ve partnered, and so we weren’t able to find a discount code to recommend you.

However, after getting your recommendation through HelloMD, you can expect deals and coupons for different dispensaries and products to be sent to you via email. While some patients have complained that the number and frequency of emails received from the company is excessive, it’s hard to argue with discounts and bargains.

Having discount coupons at all is a leg-up over our own service, although since NuggMD’s starting price point is $10 below that of HelloMD, our service still remains the cheapest online option for most people. However, each patient who completes their evaluation through NuggMD receives a $20 free credit to order delivery online through Getnugg.com, which if you count the credit as savings, the total price of a NuggMD recommendation is brought down to just $19!

    Is There a Better Option?

Frankly, HelloMD has been proven time and time again to have incredible service, knowledgeable doctors, and even touts an online community forum where patients can get both simple and highly technical, condition-related questions answered by doctors, brands, and a group of cannabis-consuming peers. There’s almost no doubt that you can’t go wrong getting your medical marijuana card through HelloMD.

BUT if you want the cheapest online price, the same high-quality service and consultations with friendly and knowledgeable doctors, plus an instant plug (with a free $20 credit) to order cannabis delivery online after getting your recommendation, NuggMD is the option for you.

  • How Do You Buy Marijuana in California Now That It’s Legal?

On November 8, 2016, Proposition 64 was approved by California voters, making recreational marijuana legal for adults age 21 and over. The new law, dubbed the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA for short), designates state agencies to license and regulate cannabis, imposes taxes at both the cultivation and retail level, and allows for local regulation and taxation of cannabis, among other things.

But now that recreational pot is legal in California, can you just buy marijuana from any dispensary, or do you still need a medical marijuana card in CA to actually make purchases?

If you’re under 21, then you still need a medical card, but if you’re over 21, you can buy marijuana in California with nothing more than a valid, government-issued ID. Recreational shops have been serving Californians since January 2018, and so far it’s been going pretty well–with one small fly in the ointment. Well, maybe it’s more flies than ointment at that.

As it turns out, most municipalities in California have decided to ban recreational marijuana. So, if you live half an hour, an hour or even further from the nearest dispensary, getting a medical card may still be more practical than buying medical cannabis from the recreational market. Furthermore, if you take the added step of getting your state-issued MMIC, you’ll be exempt from the state sales tax on your medical cannabis purchases!

This brings up A LOT of questions for medical marijuana patients and recreational users alike. We’ve updated this info for California’s 2019 cannabis regulations.

Many of us are brimming with questions, though (ironically) correct answers are hard to come by. But fear not; this post will arm you with all the answers you need going into 2019. A few uncertainties we’ll clarify include:

    1. How do you buy recreational marijuana in California now that it’s legalized?
    2. What if you’re a medical cannabis patient in California? Is your patient-status affected?
    3. Do you still need a medical marijuana card in 2019?
    4. Do you need to renew your MMJ card, and, if so, will the process change or stay the same?

  •

Do I Still Need a Medical Marijuana Card in California If Cannabis Is Legal?

    Medical Marijuana Card California

In some cases, yes, but it’s actually a lot easier to get your med card than you might think by simply visiting NuggMD (we would know).

Click here to get your medical marijuana card online in about 15 minutes for just $49. You’ll speak with a friendly doctor, and you’re only billed if approved. Plus get $20 off your first cannabis delivery!

Now that Proposition 64 has passed, or the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA) as dubbed by its supporters, you might think that you’ll be able to walk into the nearest 7-Eleven and get a pack of joints.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. A recreational dispensary in California can serve anyone who is 21 and over and possesses a valid, government-issued ID. But there just aren’t that many recreational dispensaries yet.

In fact, at the moment of this update (Jan. 2019), only 18% of California’s 540 municipalities allow recreational sales. But having a medical marijuana recommendation will give you access to far more dispensaries and products since more municipalities allow for medical cannabis.

Getting a medical weed card easily allows you to:

    • obtain cannabis at 18 years old
    • access more licensed California medical cannabis dispensaries
    • save on marijuana taxes with the addition of an MMIC
    • purchase and possess larger amounts of cannabis
    • cultivate more for medical use in many municipalities (check your local laws)
    • protect yourself from police harassment and arrest for possessing, growing or transporting medical cannabis for personal use.

How Do I Get a Medical Marijuana Card After Legalization?

Do You Still Need A Doctor’s Recommendation

In many ways, getting a cannabis card is easier today than it used to be, but we’ll get to that soon. First, some history on how MMJ recommendations originated.

Thanks to the passing of Proposition 215, otherwise known as the Compassionate Use Act, California has legally allowed marijuana for medical uses since 1996, as long as a patient has a physician’s recommendation.

And special credit goes to the writers of Prop 215, who crafted the measure to state that medical cannabis can be used to treat “any condition for which marijuana provides relief.”

This quite literally means that anyone who can claim marijuana helps improve their physical or mental well-being qualifies to become a marijuana patient in California. And contrary to popular opinion, you actually do NOT need a California ID to become a patient in the state.

All you need is a valid driver’s license or state ID from ANY state, and any condition for which medical marijuana provides you relief.

One of the co-authors for Prop 215, Dennis Peron, is considered the “father of the legalization movement” and said himself that the measure was intended to allow “literally everyone in the state the opportunity to legally access and cultivate as much cannabis as they need to feel good.”

And while California does have its own cannabis ID card program, you are not required to possess a state-issued ID to be considered a legal patient. All you need is a doctor’s recommendation. (You’ll need an MMIC for the state tax exemption though.)

So great! Having a marijuana recommendation increases your access and provides added protection! Now, how do you get one? We saved the best for last, so skip there if you just can’t wait to become a legal patient.

    Ask your primary doctor

    Recreational Marijuana Legal in California

The first (and admittedly the most intimidating) option you have to get an MMJ recommendation is to ask your primary physician. If he or she can at least have an honest discussion about how cannabis might be beneficial for your condition, you’re on the right track.

But, unfortunately, even with Prop 64’s passage and medical marijuana’s long establishment in California, the majority of traditional doctors still won’t write you a recommendation for marijuana. Some people have stories of completely severed relationships with their doctor just because they posed the question.

So, before you muster up the courage to ask your doctor directly, and risk potential consequence, understand that you have two other options.

Visit a medical marijuana doctor evaluation center

How Do You Buy Recreational Marijuana in CA

The sad reality is that most American physicians won’t write patients weed recommendations, so a new type of specialized doctor has emerged, a “cannabis specialist” if you will.

These medical marijuana doctors go by many names — 420 doctors, pot doctors, weed doctors, mmj doctors, green doctors, prop 215 doctors — the list goes on and on. And while some are noticeably more legitimate than others, they all cater to the massive California population that wants to legally use cannabis with a med card.

You can google “medical marijuana evaluations near me,” which brings up a few local listings on Yelp or Weedmaps. Then you scroll through these options, check out the reviews (some of which seem fake), prices, distances, and ultimately end up choosing the most convenient one.

When you finally visit the nearest cannabis doc, it feels similar to a typical doctor’s office. They’ll ask for your ID, if you’re a new patient or getting a renewal (recs are only valid for a year), then you’ll sit down to fill out a series of forms describing your condition and medical history.

Once finished, you’ll need to wait your turn to see the doctor. Depending on which evaluation center you visit (there are many scattered across major CA cities like San Jose, San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles), wait times average anywhere from 30 to 120 minutes.

You’ll then sit down face-to-face with the doctor to determine if cannabis is right for you. If that’s indeed the case, you’ll be approved and issued your recommendation. But if you’re not approved, don’t be surprised if you’re charged a hefty fee anyway.

Unfortunately, just like with people asking their primary physician, there’s no shortage of horror stories from patients waiting hours for their mmj evaluation. They often encountered rude and uncompassionate doctors, were sold extras they didn’t need, and even were overcharged when getting their recommendation. The “bait-and-switch” is an all-too-common scam at evaluation centers.

Needless to say, the in-person experience can leave much to be desired.

See a medical marijuana doctor online

Do I Need to Renew My Doctor’s Recommendation

We’re talking of course about the emergence of online evaluation services, ones that allow patients and doctors to connect virtually (either by video or phone call). This allows doctors to conduct a good-faith examination and patients to get approved for medical cannabis — all without driving to an office and spending hours in a waiting room with bad magazines!

The entire process is quick, affordable, easy, and 100% legal thanks to California’s telemedicine health laws.

Typically, it goes like this: sign up online, provide basic personal and medical information then have a quick consultation with a pro-cannabis doctor to get approved. Then you’ll receive an instant electronic recommendation for same-day use (you must print it out) while your official paper copy (along with your NuggMD ID Card, if you opted for it) comes in the mail a few days later.

    Yup, it’s THAT easy.

Now, there are several online mmj doctor services, but you’ll find the most value from NuggMD. The service started in 2015 and has since helped tens of thousands of patients get their medical marijuana card online and access cannabis delivery from quality dispensaries through their online marketplace platform, Nugg.

When stacked up against the competition, NuggMD just can’t be beat. Here’s what they offer:

    • The lowest online price for a recommendation, just $49.
    • An optional hard, plastic ID card (only $20 extra).
    • On-demand consultations, which means no appointment needed.
    • An instant electronic (PDF) recommendation that can be used immediately to order delivery online through Nugg-partnered cannabis dispensaries.
    • An official signed paper copy of your doctor’s recommendation with a raised, embossed seal that all CA dispensaries require (and many online med card services don’t provide).
    • $20 credit to order from ANY Nugg dispensary partner using the blog promo code BLOG20; you can literally get your MMJ card and cannabis delivered in the same hour.

Why Put Up with Recreational’s Limitations?

Medical Marijuana Card Requirements CA 2017

The Adult Use of Marijuana Act is bringing many changes, and challenges, to the legal cannabis industry in California. From a consumer perspective, there are still a lot of great reasons to get or renew your cannabis card. Once you reap the benefits of California’s legal medical marijuana market and feel its long-term value, you won’t want the hassle of being a recreational user anymore.

  • Apothecanna Products Review: Pain, Calming, & Stimulating Cremes

One company making major headway in the world of topicals is Apothecanna. Their lineup of topicals includes creams for pain relief as well as ones purported to have calming and stimulating effects on the body when applied. This post provides a detailed company review that covers each of their product offerings for medical cannabis patients.

  •

    What Are Topicals?

A seldom discussed but nevertheless impactful new trend in the cannabis world is topicalsThese product offerings are almost always CBD-heavy, and are designed to deal primarily with localized pain. A medicated cream can be applied to an inflamed knee, or to a recent bruise causing aches, to give a couple examples of how they’re used. Topicals also exist for eczema, burns and even to increase sexual pleasure.

Topicals do not get you high (most of them at least), nor do they claim to. Their sole purpose is medicinal, so for medical marijuana patients who solely enjoy the relief they find from the cannabis plant, topicals are an effective product that serve a specific purpose.

Anyone interested in trying Apothecanna’s lineup or productsor topicals in generalfor the first time should know that the experience will be vastly different than traditional marijuana intake methods. That being said, even consumers of tried-and-true cannabis use may very likely find Apothecanna’s topicals to be a welcome addition to their collection of cannabis products.

Apothecanna Body Budder, Lip Buzz, Super Salve

    What’s in Apothecanna’s Products?

CBD is the sole cannabinoid utilized in Apothecanna’s topicals, despite the anti-inflammatory properties THC likewise possesses. This means that their creams isolate the purely medicinal properties of cannabinoids, so that consumers don’t feel the psychoactive effects that THC produces.

In the past, Apothecanna’s products included both major cannabinoids, and were THC-dominant. While these may still be sold in some dispensaries (just search “Apothecanna” on Nugg), the CBD-only version is all that’s featured on their website, and notably legal to sell in all fifty states, due to CBD being derived from organic hemp.

Each of Apothecanna’s products is also made with a variety of all-natural ingredients designed to work alongside the active amount of CBD in order to maximize each one’s intended purpose. They include:

    Pain Relief:

    • Arnica (for pain relief and anti-inflammation)
    • Peppermint (for cooling and anti-inflammation)
    • Juniper (for antiseptic and anti-rheumatic properties)
    • Clove (for antiseptic, antimicrobial and stimulating properties)

    Calming:

    • Lavender (for analgesic and soothing properties)
    • Chamomile (for analgesic and soothing properties)
    • Frankincense (for analgesic, antiseptic antispasmodic and astringent properties)

    Stimulating:

    • Ginger (an analgesic and stimulant)
    • Capsaicin (for warming and anti-inflammatory properties)
    • Grapefruit (an antiseptic and antidepressant)
    • Calendula (for anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties)

    Everyday Cream:

    • Mandarin (for antiseptic and antispasmodic properties)
    • Cedar (anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and astringent)
    • Geranium (antibacterial, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial)
    • Calendula (analgesic, antibacterial, antiseptic and vulnerary)
    • Sweet Orange (anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and mood lifting)

The wide variety of herbs and holistic ingredients present from one product to the next means that each one serves a totally unique medical benefit and purpose. However, as is the case with many kinds of holistic treatments, some of the effects of these ingredients are very subtle, and hard to isolate from the overall cannabis-dominated experience.

    Apothecanna Pain Creme Review

Apothecanna’s Products Do What They Say

    Everyday Cream:

With the exception of the “Everyday” cream, which is supposed to increase overall well-being, each Apothecanna product claims to serve a specific purpose. For the most part, these claims are true, and each product does indeed serve its intended purpose.

    Pain Relief Cream:

The pain relief cream (and extra-strength pain relief, which includes hemp seed oil), which is their most popular product, can be used to relieve pain as well as to heal dry skin. For these purposes, users report the product working not just as intended, but providing very quick and highly effective pain relief. Due to its availability online and lack of psychoactive effects, this product would even be a great gift to friends and family who may not normally be inclined to try cannabis products, but are looking for powerful pain relief.

    Calming Cream:

The effects of the calming cream are subtler. While its effects are indeed calming, the difference you’ll feel after applying it will be less extreme than the instantaneous relief provided by the pain relieving cream. This isn’t to say the product doesn’t work, though. Those with trouble sleeping or feeling stressful after work can use this product to help relax, when that might otherwise be difficult. It still contains an active amount of CBD, so this cream will help with pain to an extent as well.

    Stimulating Cream:

To get the most out of the stimulating cream, apply it before an active activity, like sports or working out. The stimulation combined with the pain and joint relief provided by the cream will put you both at ease and provide you with energy during your activity of choice. You can even apply it in the morning for a natural, non-caffeine kick to make getting out of bed easier. Again, the effects are subtle, but noticeable nonetheless.

The most prevalent effect of the everyday cream is the relief it provides for dry skin, for which it is very effective. Though plenty of products exist on the market that can likely offer a comparable amount of healing on skin, the addition of CBD will give Apothecanna’s everyday cream the edge to many, who would like its additional calming and pain relief effects.

On top of it all, these creams smell great, thanks to all-natural and plant-derived ingredients. Apothecanna’s products are good enough that someone who doesn’t use skin creams as part of their daily routine, but may have an existing interest in cannabis, could find themselves new converts to the world of cannabis topicals.

    Other Products

Beyond their core lineup of CBD-derived creams, Apothecanna has also produced a series of supplementary products, which you may likely still find in dispensaries. Their official website doesn’t mention these products, but some online vendors list them as still being in production. In case a topical other than a creme or lotion is more up your alley, be on the lookout for one of the following:

    Body Budder:

This is a shea butter lotion, and is sold as a balm rather than a dispensable cream. Ingredients in the body budder include ginger, capsaicin, mango butter, calendula and ginger, giving the product a dual stimulating and calming function.

    Lip Buzz:

Still sold as an add-on if you buy in bulk from Apothecanna’s official website, lip buzz is a topical chapstick. If you can find lip buzz at your local dispensary, it’s a viable alternative to some of their pricier products, due to its smaller size and more limited function. It also works great on chapped lips!

    Super Salve:

This is another balm, like the body budder. The super salve stands out in that it contains THC, meaning it will only be sold at dispensaries. Its ingredients include neem, green tea, astragalus, tea tree, rhodiola rosea, frankincense and myrrh, which are all intended to help repair and revitalize skin.

Apothecanna’s Biggest Barrier Is the Price

Though these products work, the entry-level price for any of Apothecanna’s products is $14, for a rather small, 2oz container. This means that prospective buyers do need to show some level of commitment to their cannabis-derived topicals, as non-medicated creams with similar effects can be purchased for about half their price.

While the addition of CBD does make the pain relief cream, for example, more effective than other products on the market, it’s up to the user to determine whether they are looking to pay extra for an added level of natural pain relief.

In the case of the calming and stimulating creams, viable, non-cannabinoid versions exist with very similar effects, considering these are not the primary functions of CBD. Apothecanna makes very high quality products, so in the case of either of these creams, you’re paying for a guarantee of quality. However, it’s likely not the most cost effective to buyers without an existing interest in cannabis.

It’s also worth noting that in any case, the active amount of CBD will help with pain and heal skin no matter which cream you choose, and that dual function will justify the price for some.

    Cannabis Massages

One major way Apothecanna’s topicals are used outside the home is in cannabis massages. These are sort of a best of both worlds situation: the major calming and joint relief effects of a regular massage are at work alongside the very same effects provided by Apothecanna’s topicals.

Those who have tried them have raved about their effectiveness—very likely more so than traditional massages. Apothecanna’s massages are offered in Denver by LoDo Massage, and in Los Angeles by Green Street. Massages at both places are popular, so look to book an appointment in advance.

Anyone who knows a massage therapist and has access to Apothecanna’s products can, of course, make this happen on their own, as well.

    Customer Testimonials

I have been using this product for over a year now and I love it. It works better than any pain medication my Neurologist has given me. I take Herbal therapy (not marijuana) for my MS and now use Apothecanna extra strength pain creme when my muscles are in major pain and having spasms. No more narcotic meds for me. :).  Thank you for this great product. Annette S.

Great product for any pain relief you may be looking for; works with the CB2 receptors in the body (which are the nerve receptors) so very effective for many different pain and inflammation conditions. —Chris M.

I really like this product, I was able to save myself a lot of discomfort by using the creams and lotions when I limited and eventually stopped oxycodone after I broke my hand last year. The creams help greatly to relieve arthritis aches and pains, also. –Linda D.

    Final Verdict

    EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5/5

These creams work, and will meet your expectations, as long as you’re not trying to get high.

    STRENGTH: 4/5

The effects of Apothecanna’s topicals can be felt without having to apply copious amounts to your skin.

    AROMA: 5/5

They smell great, thanks to an array of natural ingredients.

    COST: 3/5

These products are costly. They do their job, so you’re getting what you’re paying for, but this is the biggest barrier to entry.

    OVERALL:

Apothecanna’s products work, and serve unique and varied functions that can be found in regular drug store products, but seldom at this level of efficacy. If you’re willing to pay a somewhat steep price, Apothecanna’s products will likely leave you satisfied. We hope you enjoyed this Apothecanna review, and that it will properly inform your next purchase decision.

As always, it’s best for you to decide for yourself if any of the Apothecanna products are right for you, and you can bet their products are currently on the shelves of your favorite dispensary! Company Background

AbsoluteXtracts (ABX) is a flourishing NorCal cannabis company that prides itself on providing patients with pure, potent, and safe cannabis concentrates. Their diverse range of products are fully lab tested, labeled, and come “doctor recommended,” although it’s best to take such a statement with a grain of salt.

As with any marijuana concentrate, the extraction process starts with the cannabis plant. With ABX, all their plants are grown and closely tended to in greenhouses and on small family owned farms across Northern California. They’re tested for viruses, bacteria, molds, and pesticides before being dried, cured and processed. The company uses high pressure CO2 to extract the cannabis oil and meticulous techniques to protect the cannabis terpenes, giving each strain its own unique smell, taste and effects.

Below is a detailed examination of their product line, we hope it’ll help you find a remedy for what ails you.

    AbsoluteXtracts Vape Pen

    Vape Pen

This portable vaporizer pen is simple to use and supplemented by a huge array of vaporizer cartridges available for purchase. Each cartridge touts organic oils that contain no additives or preservatives and only local, lab tested, high-quality cannabis.

    Price:

The ABX vape pen is sturdy and retails for $20-$30, but lightweight enough to carry in your pocket or purse. It even comes in a durable padded soft or hard case, depending on your aesthetic or practical preference, with cushioned pockets for the charger, battery, and a single cartridge. You can throw or toss it almost anywhere without worrying about breakage or leakage!

    How to Use It:

Plus, the ABX pen is super easy to use. The auto-draw feature allows for quick and easy activation; simply press down and inhale as the small red lights flash and enjoy! Just be aware, it’s best to take lighter, more frequent pulls than to take long, heavy hits that can cause an irritated throat.

The pen operates on a 510 thread battery (industry standard) that can be used interchangeably with many other vape cartridge brands if needed. Once fully charged, the battery provides almost 400 hits, which makes it perfect for out-and-about extended usage. But just so you know, each ABX vape cartridge typically gives ~200 hits, so you’ll need to carry two cartridges with you to max out the battery life on this bad boy!

    Soft Gel Capsules

If you don’t like smoking, vaping, extra calories, or are simply on the go, ABX Softgels are the perfect remedy for you. Each bottle contains 24 capsules, available in 10mg ($50), 25mg (around $70) and 50mg (about $100) THC doses. I’ve seen the price disparity fluctuate so use Nugg to find the best deal near you.

They also include tasty organic coconut oil to improve absorption, making sure your body harnesses their full effect. Simply pop a nondescript pill, wash it down with any non-alcoholic drink, and wait at least two hours for it to take full effect.

While some say it’s best to ingest on an empty stomach (for more dramatic effects), I recommend having a full belly beforehand, as an empty stomach could induce queasiness and even vomiting—a waste of great medication and money.

I’d start with one 25mg pill then, depending on your degree of pain, re-medicate every three to five hours. The price might seem steep, but it’s well worth it for their simplicity, effectiveness, and reliability.  Highly recommended.

    AbsoluteXtracts 100% Cannabis Oil

    Oil Extract

Available in indica and sativa, these extract syringes contain a whopping 500mg (0.5mL) of CO2 extracted pure cannabis oil in an already measured, easy to squeeze syringe for exact dosage, so you don’t have to worry about under or over medicating.

Unlike the vape cartridges, this versatile oil is best utilized for dabbing, cooking, baking, and applying topically on any unsightly bruises, cuts or sores.

When cooking be sure that the ratio is exact and applicable to the size/amount of the dish you’re making or baking. For topical application simply rub the oil into the affected area three times a day and bandage; you should see a noticeable difference, depending on the wound’s severity, in anywhere from a few days to a week.

These syringe-style extracts retail at just $25-$30, so I recommend buying one of each; that way you get more bang for your buck and can do a lot more kitchen and first-aid experimentation.

By the way, ABX is one of the first brands we’ve seen reported by users as having healing properties when applied topically to injuries (although that may be because of it’s easy topical application, not the oil itself).

    AbsoluteXtracts Sublingual Spray Sativa

    Sublingual Spray

If you’re a consumer who appreciates convenience, speed, and being discreet with your cannabis consumption, look no further than ABX’s line of sublingual sprays. They’re powerful, fast acting, and great for on-the-go medicating.

    Dose Amount & Price:

Available in both sativa and indica strains, the spray bottles come in 15mL (90 sprays) and 5mL bottles (30 sprays). The 15mL bottles retail for about $40, while the 5mL go for about $20. But again, prices vary from dispensary to dispensary, so do your research (or just use Nugg) to compare prices at different dispensaries near you.

How to Use a Sublingual Spray:

Remember to always shake the bottle beforehand, as the ingredients will separate quickly, then simply squirt under the tongue (sublingually) and hold for about a minute before swallowing. About three to fifteen minutes later you should begin to feel its soothing effects, which are advertised to last 1-2 hours.

While some sprays require frequent dosing to compensate for lack of strength, you only need two sprays from an ABX sublingual to produce a mild high. It’ll make you more focused and aware—perfect to truck through the work day without distraction or fatigue.

Should you need higher dosage, three to four sprays will create a more relaxing body high, while five sprays can spark euphoria (and sometimes paranoia)—probably not the best option for a day at the office. Remember, it’s always best to start small when considering your cannabis dosing.

    AbsoluteXtracts THC Honey Straws

    Honey Straws

Honey that gets you high? And looks like a Pixie Stick? Count me in!

    Dose Amount:

These oil infused straws are made with local, organic honey, 100% pure cannabis oil and coconut oil. Available in 10, 20, and 40mg doses of indica or sativa, they contain the same 70% active THC (like all ABX products).

    Price:

They cost anywhere from $7 to $10, but if you have a high tolerance it’s likely you could probably find a way to get more bang for your buck with a different product. After all, it’s really the convenience and novelty you’re paying for here.

    How to Consume:

Enjoying an ABX Honey Straw is as easy as shooting it straight out of the straw into almost any food or drink—or directly into your mouth! For the best experience, I recommend adding it to tea, yogurt, milk, fruit salads, shakes—pretty much anything that could use an extra kick!

These travel size straws are also perfect for public consumption without drawing unwarranted attention; just take off the label and medicate. Nobody will know, they’ll just think you have a sweet tooth!

The effects should be noticeable in anywhere from a half-hour to two hours, depending on your tolerance, so regardless of the dosage don’t suck down this nectar in one sitting.  Take your time, enjoy the flavor and one of the most creative ways there is to medicate.

    AbsoluteXtracts Grow For Vets Charity

    Grow for Vets Charity

In addition to creating an affordable line of potent, quality and diverse cannabis products, AbsoluteXtracts also sponsors the non-profit Grow For Vets “Save a Million Vets” program. This nationwide tour focuses on helping millions of our troubled American veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), to leave war behind and get back to normal life.

For every vape cartridge sold AbsoluteXtracts will also donate an extra $2 to the tour. So remember, purchasing ABX products means helping our boys, so we should all do our part.

  • Kushy Punch Review: Gummies, Pure THC Oil & Vaporizer Pen

Kushy Punch is the closest thing there is to an artisanal, California edibles brand. Organic, low-calorie, lab-tested, and hand-crafted in-state, Kushy Punch has gained a following for its highly potent, delicious, and butane-free gummies, which won “Best Edible Candy” at the Kush Expo in 2014.

  • What you'll learn in this post:

[Click any of the section titles below to jump there]

    Infused Edible Products

Kushy Punch edibles derive their active ingredients through a whole-plant extraction process, avoiding harmful byproducts and distasteful residues. They’re among the top picks for patients looking for deep, long-lasting relaxation from physical discomfort—and of course they’re great for a host of medical conditions from chronic anxiety to nerve pain.

First-time users should be wary, however, of hitting too hard on their first time to bat; as the name suggests, these gummies pack a massive punch, and it’s easy to overdo it if you’re not careful to pace yourself.

Kushy Punch Flavors, Effects, Dose, Price

    Order Kushy Punch Online

    Lab Tested:

Kushy Punch gummies are fast acting and highly potent, and every product is lab-tested using gas chromatography for dosage and uniformity (gas chromatography heats the sample to just above room temperature to expose latent gasses, exposing for the sample’s chemical contents without altering its quality and makeup).

After this initial testing process, Kushy Punch sends their edibles to a third party lab for additional analysis and quality verification.

    Flavors:

For patients who can’t stand the same old experience day after day, they come in a wide variety of flavors (grape, raspberry, cherry, etc.) and strains (indica, sativa, hybrid, CBD, and T.K.O.).

    Ingredients:

Their edibles are only made using Soxhlet extracted cannabis, gelatin, tapioca syrup,  organic cane sugar, natural flavor extract, natural food coloring, and vegetable oil. Plus, they don’t contain GMOs and are  gluten, fat, peanut and dairy-free.

    Effects:

Patients report that the hybrid and sativa strains are useful for inspiring a bit of creativity, while the indica and CBD strains are better for physical relaxation. Many patients note that Kushy Punch products retain the light, tea-like flavors of their whole-leaf flower origins—although it doesn’t appear that anybody has found this to be a bad thing.

    California Medical Dosage:

    • 60mg packages containing 3 doses each (Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, and CBD; available in all flavors)
    • 80mg packages with 4 doses each (Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, and CBD; available in all flavors)
    • 200mg packages containing 10 doses each (T.K.O.; available in all flavors)

Beginners are recommended to try just ¼ or less of a bar for their first time, and wait 30 to 45 minutes before diving in for a second round (effects come on in 30 to 45 minutes, sometimes shorter if taking dosages of 20mg or more).

If you find your tolerance higher than expected, still remember to pace yourself. The effects of just ¼ of most bars will still last 1-2 hours, with first-time users reporting ¼ and ½ bar doses of the CBD, T.K.O, and indica varieties lasting up to 4 hours. With such a potent product, experienced users will still find ¼ to ½ bar of any strain an excellent starting place for their experience.

    Price:

Depending on the strain and dose amount, Kushy Punch edibles can range in price from $10-15 for a 4-dose, 80mg bar, and $20-35 for a 10-dose, 200mg bar.

    Hack:

Click here to use Nugg’s simple (but powerful) search feature to find which dispensaries in your area currently carry Kushy Punch products. You can even compare prices in one simple view and order online for home delivery. Once you reach the website, just enter your address at the top to refine your search!

    T.K.O & CBD Gummies

The two most unique strains are the T.K.O. and the CBD, both geared for experienced or high-resistance patients. The T.K.O. strain is, simply put, an all-out assault on physical and emotional stresses alike—more than 2x the dose means more than 2x the effect. They call it the T.K.O. (“Technical Knock Out”) for good reason.

Instead of the regular 60mg to 80mg, these squares come in packages containing 200mg of THC (that’s 50mg per ¼ square, five times the dose of the traditional MMJ gummy or lozenge). T.K.O. gummies are ideal for patients who need top-level pain relief, or for those who have exceptional tolerance to cannabinoids.

For patients with diabetes, the brand’s new CBD edibles are free of sugar and corn syrup and excellent for serving up a full helping of maximum pain relief and inflammation reduction without dysphoria or lethargy.

SEE ALSO: THC vs. CBD: Effects, Health & Medical Benefits

    Sativa, Incia & Hybrid Gummies

Users report that the sativa is particularly effective for chronic pain (particularly back and foot pain) and gives a nice jolt of energy, while indica users report a “pretty heavy and meditative high” that can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours on a single dose (¼ bar).

First-time users with anxiety and depression rank both sativa, indica, and hybrid gummies as effective temporary relief of symptoms, particularly after work or before bed for a better night’s sleep.

    Kushy Punch Pure THC Oil

    Pure THC Oil

Aside from medicated edible products, Kushy Punch recently introduced a super-concentrated form of the liquid THC oil it already uses to infuse its line of edibles. Known by the name “Pure THC Oil,” this product comes in a long, tubular package and contains a syringe with THC oil concentrate that can be applied to a dab rig, vape pen, or other method by which concentrated cannabis can be ingested.

Kushy Punch uses an extraction process known as Soxhlet extraction, which uses organic sugar cane alcohol and has zero residual solvents or impurities. Their pure THC oil has been reported by lab-tests as having THC levels between 80-90%, one of the highest concentrations we’ve seen out of any product on the market.

Aside from its Pure THC Oil, the company also produces concentrated oil in a variety of strains: Pineapple Express, Mango Dream, Strawberry Cough, and Sour Tangie.

Kushy Punch Portable Disposable Vaporizer Pen

    Portable & Disposable Vape Pens

As if manufacturing the liquid concentrate wasn’t enough, Kushy Punch takes their product line to a whole new level by offering cannabis patients their concentrates in the form of disposable vape pens.

Each disposable vape pen has 500mg of active cannabinoids, with a 1:3 CBD to THC ratio, and comes pre-charged to last until the pen is empty. The only caveat is the Kushy Punch vapes seem next to impossible to find, so perhaps their production has been limited as of late?

If you’re unable to find one at your local dispensary or through a simple search on Nugg, we recommend checking out the slew of other vape cartridges on the market.

  • Bhang Bar Review: Cannabis Infused Chocolate Edibles

You’re in for a treat as we dive into the world of Bhang and review the infamous Bhang Bar. After all, as marijuana becomes further decriminalized, edibles are growing in popularity as an alternative to smoking. Nowadays, the divide between regular and medicated artisanal edibles is so slim as to be negligiblethe cannabis, of course, makes all the difference.

Some prospective edible buyers are only looking for an alternative to smoking. Others are looking for something fun, like medicated gummy bears, soda, or vegan recipes and treats they can try. Others, meanwhile, want something that tastes great and works as advertised.

Bhang makes edibles for this third group of people. Making great-tasting chocolate is one of Bhang’s top priorities. The cannabis is almost an added bonus.

About Bhang: Chocolatiers Making Cannabis Products

    Bhang Bar Review

Scott J. Van Rixel, the CEO of Bhang, is a certified Chef de Cuisine and Master Chocolatier, whose regular gourmet chocolate company, Chocolate Cartel, still operates today. Co-founded with his brother, Tim, in New Mexico, Chocolate Cartel’s assortment of truffles and chocolate bars quickly veers into the unconventional. They sell, for example, blueberry port truffles alongside 90% dark chocolate Bhang bars.

It’s this creativity on which Bhang was founded and operates. According to their official website, Van Rixel, alongside his team of chocolatiers, has made producing world class chocolate their first and foremost priority. With Van Rixel’s pedigree, it’s hard to doubt this bold claim.

As a company, Bhang sells both edibles and vape products. Their flagship product is the Bhang Bar, which comes in many flavorsten are shown on their website, however, due to the structure of the Bhang company, availability of specialty flavors will depend on your local dispensary.

The company itself is essentially a wholesale retailer. Independent manufacturers operate in some of the different states in which marijuana is legal, including California, Colorado, Michigan and New Mexico. Once the products are manufactured, they’re distributed to a huge range of legal cannabis dispensaries, so that medical patients in legal (or medically legal) states can enjoy them with ease.

    Bhang Products

Vape products sold by Bhang include a vape pen and pre-filled cartridge called the Bhang stick, a premium pre-filled cartridge called Bhang Black Private Reserve, an All Natural Bhang Stick Cartridge, Pure Cannabis Oil Bhang Stick Cartridges, and a disposable all-in-one vape pen called the Bhang Perfecto.

RECOMMENDED READ: The Best and Worst Vape Cartridges

Alongside their chocolate bars, the company also produces mouth sprays, available in THC and CBD-predominate versions, as well as a CBD and hemp oil-infused chewing gum, designed as a pain relief and wellness supplement.

No matter which Bhang product you’re considering, it’s comforting to know Bhang backs it up with a “Triple Promise Guarantee.” Found on the company’s website, the guarantee makes three claims (hence the name).

First, Bhang promises to deliver the highest quality in medical cannabis products crafted from the finest in raw organic botanicals and ingredients.

Second, Bhang promises to provide transparency with precise and consistent amounts of cannabinoids in every one of its products (we’ll discuss this one shortly).

And finally, Bhang promises the utmost care in safety and handling of its products, and practices standards of the highest degree in production, testing, and packaging.

    Bhang Bar Price and Effects

The Bhang Bar Puts Premium Chocolate First

    Flavors & Taste:

Some of the flavors the Bhang Bar comes in (no exhaustive list is available on their official website) include dark chocolate, milk chocolate, cookies & cream, ice chocolate (peppermint), pretzel, toffee, cherry, CBD caramel and fire chocolate.

Each of these has its own characteristic flavor. The ice chocolate, for example, is cool and refreshing, whereas the fire chocolate has a noticeable spiciness, and even leaves behind a kick after the bar has been consumed. The cannabis component is noticeable, however, so be aware there will be a hint of cannabutter accompanying any of these flavors.

    Dosage:

The bars come in single, double and triple strength variants, which corresponds to 60, 120 and 180 milligrams of THC. Each bar is divided into four individual doses, so standard doses for each of these bars will be 15, 30 or 45mg, respectively.

Depending on the flavor, strains used for the medicated portion of the bars are advertised as being predominantly hybrid (sativa-dominant), indica or in the case of the caramel flavor, 50/50 between CBD-dominant and THC-dominant strains.

This wide range of choices means that connoisseurs of artisanal chocolate (or marijuana edibles) may find something new to try in Bhang’s range of products. Furthermore, CBD strains are seldom utilized in edible products, so anyone who prefers the effects of CBD should keep an eye out for the caramel flavor at their local dispensary.

    Effects:

The bars work, too. For the average cannabis patient, one 30mg dose of the double strength bar should be plenty to attain a noticeable high. Most users report effects kicking in after just 15-30 minutes, and describe first effects as cerebral, providing a mild head-high followed by full-body relief and relaxation.

    How long do they last?:

Many patients report intense pain relief from a Bhang Bar, which makes it perfect for those suffering from arthritis, joint pain, back pain, or any other type of chronic pain. The duration of the effects certainly seems to vary, with some users reporting only 2-3 hours of pain relief while others report a surprising 6-8 hours.  We recommend trying one for yourself (and starting with a low dose) to determine where your tolerance lies with Bhang.

    Price:

Most Bhang Bar’s retail in California cannabis dispensaries for anywhere from $15-30, depending on the dosage. If you’re looking for an easy way to find if dispensaries in your area carry Bhang products, look no more, as Nugg’s powerful search feature does the scouring, which lets you do the devouring.

    Order Bhang Bar Online

    And the Winner Is…

Beyond loads of patients endorsing the effectiveness of Bhang products, the company has won an impressive number of awards following its debut in 2010:

    • 1st Place High Times Cannabis Cup “Best Edible” Denver 2013
    • 1st Place High Times Cannabis Cup Los Angeles 2012
    • 2nd Place High Times Cannabis Cup San Francisco 2011
    • 3rd Place High Times Cannabis Cup “Best New Product” California 2011
    • 1st Place High Times Medical Cannabis Cup San Francisco 2010

So you can rest assured you’re going to get what that plenty of expert cannabis users have had positive experiences with Bhang’s products.

Bhang’s Biggest Weakness: Lack of Communication

In my experience, one 30mg dose of the milk chocolate bar is plenty sufficient, but some users online report having to consume an entire double strength bar to feel any of its intended effects.

While Bhang’s website mentions lab testing being a part of their production process, no further information is available on just how their products are tested. Though their products invariably work, and function as advertised most of the time, there’s a level of variance large enough to be attributable to more than just the tolerance of individual users.

Communication issues extend beyond variances in strength as well. The packaging itself very visibly advertises the strength as per their single/double/triple classification, as well as the percentage of cocoa used in each given flavor’s production. What’s lost in this packaging (in my opinion) is a more explicit display of the actual amount of THC in milligrams each product contains. While it IS included on the packaging, it’s in a much smaller font at the very bottom, that may be hard to spot when deciding whether or not to purchase the product at your local dispensary.

Since cannabis education is scarce, this could easily lead to doses larger than may be desirable. A “triple-strength” chocolate bar sounds appealing, but you won’t think so after becoming couch-locked and having your brain-melt (don’t worry, this won’t actually happen).

In general, we believe it’s imperative for companies who produce cannabis edibles, vaporizers, flowers, concentrates, etc. to make explicitly clear to consumers what a proper dose is (in milligrams of cannabinoids), how long that dose should require to take effect, and what testing process was conducted before that product hit dispensary shelves.

So, as with any edible product, be careful, and know how to control your cannabis dosages.

    Customer Testimonials

“These, my friend, are the only edibles I love. I don’t even smoke anymore because of these bad boys.” –John, 26

    “Love the chocolates!!” –Kathy, 49

“I just bought a bar of the bhang chocolate single dose pure indica, I ate one full dose at the dispensary, I started feeling it driving home after about 20 minutes and it kept getting stronger and stronger no paranoia no anxiety some deep introspective thoughts, but my favorite part is it doesn’t make me feel like my blood pressure is elevated.  I been eating the CBD bhang chocolate every day for two years but i’m gonna start medicating exclusively with this and it’s cheaper than the CBD.  I love the fact that it’s pure indica.” –Brian, 35

Is the Bhang Bar for Me?

As evidenced above, people like Bhang bars. However, they don’t go to the lengths some other companies (Kiva Confections or Mary’s Medicinals are great examples) take to assure that their users are getting the dose they desire or need. First-time users of the Bhang bar should go in expecting a chocolate bar that tastes great first, as per Bhang’s priorities, and will leave you with as strong a medicated high as you desire.

Bhang bars are inarguably fun. The range of flavors and high quality South American chocolate were an early influence on the now thriving artisanal edible scene. As per this Bhang bar review, they’re ultimately recommended for anyone whose idea of a good time doesn’t hinge on a consistent high, but rather a compelling and high quality product.

  • Mary’s Medicinals Review: Transdermal Patch, CBD Capsules & More

This post explores and reviews one of the most revolutionary product-manufacturers in cannabis — Mary’s Medicinals, a company that has pioneered a new form of cannabis consumption.

As you’re probably aware, there are almost as many ways to ingest medical cannabis as there are reasons for ingesting it. But you may not realize there are new cannabis products you put ON your body instead of IN your body, and these delivery methods are making the whole industry take notice.

  •

    About Mary’s Medicinals

Starting in 2013, Colorado-based Mary’s Medicinals, a company dedicated to advancing medical marijuana technology, began distributing transdermal patches and topical gel pens that are carefully dosed, beautifully  packaged, and highly effective. Today, the entire line of Mary’s Medicinals cannabis products are finally available wherever marijuana is sold legally. Thanks to great cannabis delivery services like Nugg, your THC-infused patch is just a few taps or clicks away!

The best part about Mary’s revolutionary new way to administer marijuana is the head-spinning array of choices.  If we’re just talking about transdermal patches (don’t worry, I’ll get to the other exciting products shortly), you can get the 2 “x2” medicated patch in the following varieties: 10mg of CBD , CBN , THC  or  CBD/THC; and  20mg of indica or sativa.

    Mary's Medicinals Transdermal Patch

    Order Mary's Medicinals Online

We put Mary’s new medicated patches to the test below, but first we’ll look at the history of the patch itself. After all, transdermal patches are nothing new. You probably know of nicotine patches used for smoking cessation, but did you realize that transdermal patches have been around since 1979, when the FDA first approved them for administering the drug scopolamine to combat motion sickness? Since then, the patch has delivered everything from birth control to vitamin B12.

In many ways, a medicated adhesive patch is the ideal way to ingest cannabis. Most importantly, it releases the cannabinoids in a constant, controlled manner. This time-release property is a perfect complement to the medicine’s analgesic effects, and it may be the most convenient way to take your medication ever – stick one and done.

Do Mary’s Medicinals Transdermal Patches Work?

In a word, yes. You will start feeling the effects about 25 minutes after you slap it on. The effects are quite subtle at first, but also very enduring  –  not 8 to 10 hours like Mary’s website claims, but a solid 4 to 6 hours of extended relief. The THC “high” is as potent as a double-dose cannabutter edible, but lasts longer, and the CBD pain-relieving properties are out of this world.

Mary’s most popular cannabis patches, and the only ones we tested, were the 10 mg. CBD/THC combination patches with a 1:1 ratio, and the 20 mg. THC Sativa patches. They cost about $10 apiece, less in multipacks. The most remarkable effect noticed by everyone in our diverse sample, is the analgesic effect of transdermal CBD on old, forgotten aches and pains you’ve simply accepted and learned to live with. Several of our test patients, who suffer from different ailments helped by cannabis, were surprised to experience an absence of discomfort in joints and muscles that were normally a problem, including this writer!

Both a nagging ache in my shoulder, and a lifelong knee pain simply disappeared. I had suffered for years, and gotten used to the soreness, so it was a pleasant surprise to get some relief I didn’t bargain for. These effects wear off about 4 or 5 hours after applying the patch, but you can then light up a bowl and keep the medicine flowing. Seriously, a joint or a vape pen hit are exquisite after your patch starts to wear off. The 20 mg. THC patch was designed  primarily for recreational users, and it will keep you comfortably medicated for half the day. Our test of the Sativa patch proved to be the perfect focus for daytime use, more of a natural pick-me-up – Mary’s non-drowsy formula, if you will.

As expected, a few of our patients inquired about using multiple patches at the same time. According to Mary’s Medicinals’ Chief Scientist Noel Palmer, multiple patches can be applied, including mixing and matching the different types. In fact, Palmer recommends two patches for regular cannabis users or large body types. You can’t O.D. on cannabis, but applying more than two patches is downright wasteful, not to mention expensive. If you prefer uninterrupted low-dosage relief, says Palmer, feel free to cut each patch into four pieces, and apply one quarter at a time.

The patch should be applied anywhere on your body where you see veins below the skin – wrists, ankles, or the top of your foot. They are not any more uncomfortable to remove than a Band-Aid, but if that thought makes you queasy, soak the patch in warm water before removing. Remove any residual adhesive with rubbing alcohol.

    Mary’s Medicinals New Products

While this proprietary line of medicinal patches is spreading quickly through the cannabis community, and putting Mary’s Medicinals on the map, the company has a number of equally revolutionary products on the market.

    Mary's Medicinals Transdermal Pen

    • Transdermal Gel Pen – The Transdermal Pen is like the patch, except you squeeze out 2 mg of either CBD, CBN, THC Sativa or THC Indica gel, which is rubbed into the skin to ease soreness and relieve pain.

    Mary's Medicinals Transdermal Compound

    • Transdermal Topical Compound – an all-natural analgesic cream containing 100 mg of active cannabinoids, including CBN and THC, which is reported to be the balm-dot-com for stiff muscles and inflammation.

Mary's Medicinals Green and Protein Powder Mixes

    • Cannabinoid Green & Protein Powder Mixes – Mary’s has found a method of encapsulating fresh plant material that retains the nutritional value and active cannabinoids, available in powder form mixed with either whey powder or greens. Maybe the perfect product for those who love combining cannabis with their exercise and workout routines?

    Mary's Medicinals Muscle Freeze

    • Elite CBD Muscle Freeze – This is Mary’s newest product, a combination of CBD and natural plant extracts for a soothing and cooling cream that eases sore muscles and provides a warm glow you’ll never get with Ben-Gay.

Mary's Medicinals CBD and CBN Capsules

    • CBD/CBN Capsules – Mary’s capsules are 100 percent plant-based, vegan, GMO-free, gluten-free and contain no additives or organic volatile impurities. Each container contains 30 5mg. CBD/CBN capsules that are 100% non-psychoactive, meaning they’re intended strictly for medical use and their pain relieving properties.

We did not try the gel pen (or other products for that matter, but we will), but noted that it’s a sophisticated instrument for exact dosing and includes a child-safety feature. Simply rotate the top portion of the pen clockwise to unlock the child safety mechanism, and back the other direction to lock it after dispensing. To dispense, push down on the top of the pen – the tip will dispense 2mg of gel per click – rub this into a veinous area such as your wrist.

If you’re at all curious about exploring these products in more-depth, you should definitely check out the Mary’s Medicinals website, where you can see how the founders are dedicated to natural pain-killing techniques and cutting-edge cannabis medicine. Their slogan, “For us, it’s simply black and white” is reflected in their simple philosophy and in their elegant, old-timey black and white web pages that hark back to 100 years ago.

And if you’re looking to buy any of Mary’s Medicinals products, you can do a simple (but powerful) search in Nugg to find which local dispensaries are currently able to deliver these products to you.

How Do Transdermal Products Compare to Other Cannabis Medications?

It’s impossible to compare. While patches and transdermal gels are a godsend for long trips and a perfect way to time-release your medication, you may miss the sensual experience of inhaling a thick cloud of smoke, or of biting into a delicious brownie.

On the plus side, Mary’s products are delivered directly to the bloodstream avoiding first-pass metabolism by the liver and breakdown by stomach acids. This gives their products an effective dosing of approximately 10 fold over anything else on the market, according to the Mary’s Medicinals website anyways. Many of their patches contain THC which is also the primary active ingredient in cannabis. However, smoking cannabis high in THC results in a sudden “high” that wears off quickly, while Mary’s Patch is designed to deliver a slow and consistent long-term medicinal dosage. Their cannabinoid specific products, such as THCa and CBD, are non-psychotropic, so they are much less like smoking.

Their list of ingredients, as displayed on the packaging, includes carefully extracted Cannabis oil, which is cannabinoid- and terpene-enriched. A proprietary carrier compound delivers the active medicine directly to the bloodstream for maximum efficiency and bioavailability. Plus, all of their patches are made with hypoallergenic silicone backer and are latex-free.

However, a guy who claims to have helped develop the transdermal cannabis patch has been trolling (well, it depends how you see it) medical marijuana boards and offers a little shade. He says the Mary’s patch is not all-natural, and that it contains chemicals in both the patch and the adhesive. Furthermore, he reminds us that ALL transdermal patches come with risks.

Remember that our skin is a fairly effective barrier, but it’s not 100% fool-proof. It’s been protecting our innards for hundreds of thousands of years, and it will never let stuff enter your body without a fight. In order for a transdermal job to do its job, it must include an agent that relaxes the skin to let the medication seep into your bloodstream. Unfortunately, in this relaxed state, the area of skin covered by the patch also lets you take in smog and other environmental toxins intravenously.

Sounds scary, we know, but even the skeptical patch developer considers the patch and transdermal gel pen to be safe. Just be sure to clean the area with alcohol only – don’t use soap – and cover the dab of gel concentrate with a chemically-resistant material, like Teflon sheet.
