  1. Cheeba Chews 1:1 CBD:THC Chocolate Taffy (2019 Review)

When I have an unbearably jam-packed day, I look for an edible I can trust to deliver a focused, long-lasting high that provides relaxation without the drowsiness. Time and time again I turn to a trusted brand like Cheeba Chews and their 100mg 1:1 THC:CBD Chocolate Taffy (around $20) to get me through a long day.

How to describe Cheeba Chews? Classic. Iconic even. For nearly 10 years, the brand has worked to cement its status as a familiar and trusted favorite. Their time-tested experience produces consistently tasty and beneficial products you can trust to deliver a familiar high every time. Find their products in most legal cannabis dispensaries in California, Colorado and Nevada.

Cheeba Chews Chocolate Taffy comes in a rectangular, baby blue package. Inside are 10 individual blister-packed 10mg square pieces, each dosed with 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD. This even ratio provides a perfectly balanced high, relaxing the mind and spirit while providing enough energy and focus to face a busy day head-on.

This cannabis-infused taffy isn’t the most unique edible available, but what it lacks in creativity it makes up for in nostalgia and consistency. Each chewy, sticky bite reminds me of the saltwater chocolate taffy I bought as a kid on family vacations by the beach, enjoying them on the sand as the waves glided in and out – only with a slight cannabis flavor. These days I’m typically not relaxing by the Pacific when I eat Cheeba Chews (I’m sorry to say), but their texture, chocolatey flavor and consistent high leave me similarly relaxed for 2-6 hours.

In this Cheeba Chews Chocolate Taffy review, you'll learn about this product's:

    Packaging, Labeling & Product Design

The new compliant packaging is a bit bulkier and tougher than the old medical chews. I had some trouble getting the taffies out of their plastic pouches so they’re truly child-proof. If you suffer from arthritis or other hand pain, you’ll need someone to open them.

While Cheeba Chews enjoys the trust of the cannabis community, they tend to lack transparency when it comes to lab testing. Their website says their products are lab tested, yet the lab results, strain breakdown and cannabis source isn’t readily available on the packaging. The brand would benefit from offering more transparency on their lab test results, sourcing of plant material, and manufacturing technique. Until then, I’ll rely on the consistent results I get from this balanced 100mg taffy to form an opinion.

    Quality, Ease of Use

The classic logo ensures an effective cannabis candy experience. One bite into the sticky, slightly chewy 1:1 square and you know what to expect: Tootsie Roll taste and a relaxed-but-functional experience.

The new packaging required excessive effort to unwrap each individual child-proof packet, making it a hassle to dose in larger amounts. But if you’re into microdosing, this isn’t an issue.

    Potency, Effectiveness & Affordability

At 10 milligrams of balanced THC and CBD per piece, I ate the whole pack as a post-dinner treat, which was tough. It was a nice cap-off to my chicken stir-fry and helped digest that broccoli and bok choy without bloating.

The taffy’s potency and effectiveness were exactly as I expected from Cheeba Chews – enjoyably chill-but-focused for body and mind. I felt comfortable and content getting work done without feeling lethargic; I didn’t fidget and wasn’t distracted by the noise outside my window on this surprisingly cool summer evening.

With a $22 price tag, this is more than I’d like to spend on an edible – especially since Korova cookies are almost double the CBD and THC, only two dollars more and just as effective. Still, I know Cheeba Chews is a trustworthy brand backed by consistency and effectiveness, so I’ll continue to fork over 22 bones for more chews. You win, Cheeba Chews. Touché.

Nugg Score: How the Nugg Team Rates This Product

    Packaging: 2.5/5

    • While the box protects your chews well and has pleasing graphics, it’s far too big and bulky for the product inside.
    • New compliant packaging is about six inches long and an inch deep, too bulky to stuff in your pocket.
    • Child-resistant cardboard that covers the blister pack allows you to break down into longer segments, but it’s still awkward.

    Labeling: 3.5/5

    • Iconic logo and polka dot background make me know it’s a brand I can trust.
    • Label includes net weight, amount of servings, THC: CBD content and cannabinoid content.
    • List of ingredients along with nutrition information, yet no lab results.
    • Includes a tip: pop these in the freezer for 2 minutes if the taffy is too soft to help get them out of the package.
    • If the packaging included where this product was sourced, how it was sourced and the strains it came from, I’d give this a 5.

    Easy to dose: 4/5

    • Easier than it used to be to dose (for someone who doses in 5 mg increments).
    • Childproofing makes it tough to open and requires more energy and finger strength.
    • Consuming the entire Cheeba Chew out of the package at once is tricky and frustrating.

    Discretion: 3/5

    • Inner packaging is nondescript.
    • Draws unwanted attention when you’re struggling to open the package.

    Taste: 3/5

    • “Chocolate Taffy” chews taste like tootsie rolls.
    • Has hints of cannabis flavor.
    • Ideal if you’re a Tootsie Roll fan (I am not).

    Texture: 4.5/5

    • Soft, chewy consistency.
      Eventually melts in your mouth.
It might get stuck in your teeth, but not irritating.
      Stays true to taffy texture.

    Effectiveness: 5/5

    • Makes me relaxed yet functional with equal parts CBD to THC.
    • I ate the whole package (50mg THC and 50mg CBD), which was the perfect post-dinner treat.
    • Chill but focused, I got stuff done without feeling restless or uneasy.

    Versatility: 1.5

    • Mimicking a tootsie roll, there aren’t many ways you can incorporate these into a meal.
    • Try serving them on a toothpick as a post-dinner treat.

    Consistency: 5/5

    • Over the years, Cheeba Chews have been consistent in their flavor, consistency and effectiveness.

    Price: 3/5

    • Higher-than-average price at $22.
    • Other brands like Korova have more cannabis content for almost the same price.
    • Can charge more due to their trusted name backed by quality.

    Overall: 3.5

If you need a reliable, balanced edible from a reputable brand to stay focused and active, this 1:1 THC:CBD taffy does it. You might find the childproof blister packaging a pain to open, especially if you have a higher tolerance and need the full 50mg THC and 50mg CBD for relief. While you can’t go wrong with its mix of Tootsie Roll flavor and slight cannabis taste, other brands provide more complex flavor and a bit more THC and CBD content for almost the identical cost.

  2. Review: 4.20 Bar Marijuana Edible

This post will take you through an extended journey of the entire 4.20 Bar product line. You’ll get to know each flavor individually and gain a better understanding of the Venice Cookie Co., the company who produces this delectable edible.

Some attributes are shared across all flavors.  The first is consistency.  Each 1 ounce bar has six segmented doses, making compounded dosing easier, and contains 4.2 grams of dried cannabis.

The segments (six per bar) are on the small side and leave room for multiple pieces per sitting, making the 4.20 Bar effective for both beginner and seasoned patients. It’s recommended that beginners just start with one dose, and make there way up to another segment after waiting 30 minutes – 1 hour.

    Milk Chocolate

We start our review with their base chocolate bar, the 38% cacao milk chocolate.  It sets the tone for all other flavors in their product line — it features a smooth texture, tasty milk-chocolate and almost completely masks the taste and smell of cannabis contained within.

    4.20 Bar Edible Review

    Milk Chocolate & Toffee

This variant uses the same milk chocolate as the bar above, but adds chunks of sweet toffee.  The bar springs to life with its addition of caramelized sugar, and combines perfectly with milk chocolate to make for a delightful, tasty, and crunchy treat.

    Milk Chocolate Hemp Crunch

The chocolate/toffee combo listed above was only an introduction to the crunchy-blast that the “Hemp Crunch” flavor provides. It’s loaded with hemp hearts and crisped rice to give it an even more noticeable crunch.  It tastes very much like a Nestle Crunch or a Krackle bar.  And I freaking love Krackle bars.

However, the 4.20 Bar version brings with it omegas 3,6, and 9 — the fatty acids widely celebrated for preventing stroke, diabetes, and heart disease and for promoting cell growth and a healthy immune system. For me, this makes the Hemp Crunch bar significantly more attractive than the Krackle bars I had to sell during my Little League days.

    CBD Dark Chocolate

Those interested in the whole body benefit offered by Omega fatty acids might also enjoy a pinch of CBD as an antioxidant.  The CBD Dark Chocolate bar is the only one not packing 180mg of THC. Instead, it splits its cannabinoids in a 2 to 1 ratio of CBD to THC.  I typically go with the CBD-bar after a trip to the gym, as the anti-inflammatory properties help soothe my arthritic joints, while its antipsychotic, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressive properties keep me on an even keel.

    4.20 Bar Edible Review

    Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt

The second bar in the dark chocolate series features 61% cacao, but adds a hint of sea salt for extra zest. And note: the salt is salty, while the dark chocolate is slightly bitter and velvety on the tongue.  For those who crave the currently popular dark chocolate bar, but seek extra flavor, the sea-salt pairing in this bar will satisfy you and then some.

Blackberry Dark Chocolate & Popping Candy

A delightfully different addition to the 4.20 bar line, the “popping candy” (I imagine it’s very similar to Pop-Rocks) contained within this edible light your mouth up with a crackling, tingly sensation. In my opinion it only enhances the flavors of dark chocolate and berries. I also think the popping sensations encourages a faster sublingual uptake (which allows THC to enter your system faster, creating more immediate and exaggerated effects).

With the exception of the CBD bar, each 4.20 Bar has 180 mg of THC per bar and 30 mg of THC per segment across the product line.  I take one or two pieces at a time to fit my tolerance-level, and often let the chocolate melt in my mouth to speed up the effects of ingesting cannabis.  Typically within 45-55 minutes, I feel its full effects –a creative, distracting and uplifting high.

Despite struggling through three consecutive high-stress weeks, my experience with the line of 4.20 Bars has helped ease my mental anxiety, but has also reduced a lot of the tension in my shoulders.

But the versatility of this edible doesn’t stop there.  I also took one dose before a trip to the gym, and was pleasantly surprised by how well it soothed muscle aches and allowed me to have a prolonged workout.

With its combined mental and physical effects, the 4.20 Bar by the Venice Cookie Co. is an effective solution for many symptoms.

  3. Here Are 5 Ways to Consume Cannabis

Doctors have only recently begun to publicly recognize the medical benefits of cannabis. From treating debilitating diseases in humans to easing pain in pets, there are countless applications for this remarkable plant.

But many people still don’t know what it really means to consume cannabis. Sure, you might be able to spot the difference between a joint and a bong, but there’s so much more to be aware of, like knowing the difference between a 100mg and 1,000mg edible. Yeah, we’re talking about that time in college you and your roommate ate the whole thing and found yourselves on planet Zargab (not a real planet).

So let’s get meducated! (No, that’s not a typo and, yes, you can give us credit for the word).

    Smoking Cannabis Flower

A lot of people choose smoking as their main way of consuming cannabis. The effects are pretty much immediate and the dosage is relatively easy to control. Depending on a strain’s THC & CBD content, effects from smoking cannabis can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2-4 hours.

In its flower form (as it’s most commonly found), cannabis can be smoked plenty of different waysYou can use a pipe, bong, blunt, bubbler, piece of fruit (apples are highly-recommended) or just about anything else with a spot to put your herb and a hole to smoke it through.

Not sure where to start? You could just go with the classic joint; or the bit more fancy blunt. Granted, the better you filter the smoke, the better it is for your body.

HINT: Smoked marijuana can cause throat and lung irritation, so have some water nearby and first inhale small and slowly!

    Vaporizing Flower or Extracted Oils

“Vaping” (the act of vaporizing) is arguably the future of cannabis consumption. It’s become popular with medicinal/recreational users and experts/doctors alike because it’s discreet and produces a smoother, tastier and healthier hit, free of the toxic chemicals and tar consumed when smoking cannabis.

A vaporizer electronically heats up cannabis flowers and extracted oils to a low enough temperature that’ll release their beneficial compounds without the potentially harmful combustion. They come in many shapes and sizes, but almost all require a power source (either battery or wall plug) to use.

This process causes cannabis’ active ingredients, mainly CBD and THC, to be “cooked” off and turned into vapor which is then inhaled. Depending on CBD & THC content in the oil you’re consuming, effects from vaping may take 5-10 minutes to hit and can last up to 4 hours.

HINT: There are tons of companies that offer vaporizer products, so the best place to start is with a simple online search, but watch out for fake reviews!

Eating Edibles: Foods, Desserts, Drinks & More

For may, cannabis and tobacco are all the same—dangerous. The fact is, smoking just comes with a negative stigma (we’re trying to change that), which is why some cannabis users purposely avoid smoking and the stigma associated with it by turning to edibles—THC infused foods and beverages.

Caution is extremely advised for the first time edible consumer. Remember factors such as body weight, height, fat, and external stimuli, like how recently you’ve eaten or how active you’ve been, can affect your reaction to an edible.

Most will take 45min-1 hour to take effect but can sometimes take as long as 3 hours, so don’t make the mistake of thinking your first dose was a dud then scarf down brownie number two. You’ll regret it! Depending on its THC & CBD content, an edible’s effects can last anywhere from 3-8 hours.

Because marijuana is very fat soluble, it can easily be infused into either oil or butter for baking. Types of edibles include (but are not limited to) brownies, cookies, gummy bears, lollipops, chocolate bars, pizza, ice cream, honey, and even the occasional birthday cake.

HINT: if taking an edible for the first time, be in a comfortable environment under the supervision of a friend and start with just one small dose.

    Dabbing Concentrates

Although most concentrates are technically “smoked,” they fall under their own form of consumption known as “dabbing.”

Cannabis concentrates produce the strongest form of medicating. Effects are immediate, and last 1-4 hours depending on relative THC vs CBD content. Many individuals in the medical cannabis community prefer concentrates such as oils, shatter, and wax for their intense pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.

How does it work? Dabbing requires a water bong with an attachment known as a “dab nail,” typically made from quartz or titanium. Also known as a dab rig, you heat the dab nail with a torch to ~900°F, then “dab” your concentrate onto the hot nail while simultaneously inhaling the resulting vapor through a pipe or bong.

HINT: Just like an edible, try and be with someone experienced if dabbing for the first time, and start small.

    Taking Tinctures

Tinctures are liquid cannabis concentrates made by extracting cannabinoids from the cannabis plant using high-proof grain alcohol. Peak effects are felt within 20 minutes and are steady and rather mellow.

These THC tinctures can be administered simply by putting a few drops from the bottle’s droopper under the tongue (we recommend 1-2 drops for first time users), allowing for easy dosage control. Effects are almost immediate and peak effects be felt within 20 minutes and last 1-3 hours.

HINT: Anyone medicating with cannabis should do so in a safe environment, and is strongly advised not to drive, operate machinery or participate in dangerous activities.

In a follow-up post, we’ll talk about some things to know when it comes to knowing how much cannabis to consume.
