Unlike its sister THC, CBD produces no psychoactive effects when isolated. Many believe CBD is responsible for mmj&#8217;s several benefits, most notably muscle relaxation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">In recent years, thousands of patients have found CBD useful in treating a variety of ailments and disorders including autism, cancer, and epilepsy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some of the most groundbreaking results have been found in children suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/getnugg.com\/blog\/medical-marijuana-and-epilepsy\/\">epilepsy<\/a> or seizures. Since CBD doesn&#8217;t induce a high, parents are more willing to try it rather than cannabis with THC.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Cultivators have started breeding CBD-only strains of cannabis for this specific purpose, mo including Charlotte\u2019s Web and ACDC. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">There are two types of CBD available today: <strong>hemp CBD<\/strong> and<strong> cannabis CBD<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Hemp-based CBD comes from the C. Sativa species of the cannabis plant, which produces little to no THC naturally and has a much lower CBD potency. Currently hemp-based CBD products with <strong>less than 0.3% THC<\/strong> are available as dietary supplements in this country and worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Meanwhile cannabis-based CBD is derived from the C. Indica species of the cannabis plant, which has a higher THC and CBD potency. Cannabis-based CBD products are only available in legal medical or recreational marijuana states. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some researchers argue cannabis-based CBD is more effective because it&#8217;s more potent. Developed countries with large pharmaceutical industries led the charge, including the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Signed in Vienna by 182 of the 193 UN member states, the treaty had the goal of controlling psychoactive drugs like amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and psychedelics on a global scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">As a result, more substances have been added through the years and \u201cscheduled\u201d according to their addictive nature, medicinal properties, and other defining characteristics.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The UN is currently figuring out how to classify <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/document?D=FDA-2017-N-4515-0001\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17 different substances<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">, including fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids, muscle relaxants, ketamine, and natural CBD. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"4\"><strong>What Happens Now?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The debate about CBD has progressed quickly, although not quickly enough. Many people suffer from conditions treatable with this medicine just because they live in a state without access to it.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Logically, there shouldn\u2019t be a debate about the federal legality of an all-natural, non-addictive, non-psychoactive plant that can stop epileptic seizures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Unfortunately, we live in a time where the War On Drugs and its propaganda still permeate our collective consciousness, muddying what should be a straightforward conversation and making it hard to pass federal drug policy reform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">But there&#8217;s hope. We\u2019ve seen a drastic shift in sentiment towards the War On Drugs, evidenced by a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drugpolicy.org\/news\/2014\/04\/new-pew-poll-confirms-americans-ready-end-war-drugs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2016 Pew Research poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> showing <strong>63% of Americans<\/strong> approve of moving away from mandatory minimum for drug-related prison sentencing, a major shift from <strong>2001 when only 47%<\/strong>\u00a0agreed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">With Americans&#8217; fast-changing sentiment, we can only hope the government responds by creating policy to reflect the changing times. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"5\"><strong>What Does This Mean for the United States?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">FDA Deputy Commissioner Anna K. Abram said, \u201cCBD has been shown to be beneficial in experimental models of several neurological disorders, including those of seizure and epilepsy.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">This puts their stance at odds with the <a href=\"https:\/\/getnugg.com\/blog\/dea-search-history-cannabis\/\">Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)<\/a>, who tried to add CBD as a Schedule 1 drug with no medicinal applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Whatever the United Nations decides has no technical effect on the United States\u2019 classification of drugs; but the decision could certainly influence our government to change their stance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You can help too.
