In fact, treating menstrual cramps with cannabis dates back to the England of Charles Dickens. Queen Victoria (whose reign began June 20, 1837, and continued until her death on January 22, 1901) used marijuana for relief of severe menstrual cramps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Prescribed by royal physician Sir J. R. Reynolds, Queen Victoria began using cannabis in 1890, roughly seventy years after it was first brought to England by Dr. W. B. O\u2019Shaghnessy. Cannabis is also well-know to help eliminate insomnia and reduces general anxiety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"3\"><strong>Any Research to Support It?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Sadly, due to impediments resulting from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.popsci.com\/science\/article\/2013-04\/why-its-so-hard-scientists-study-pot\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">current federal laws<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">, researchers remain in a constant uphill battle to gather data, run trials and collect vital information to help discover marijuana\u2019s full potential (including if it cannabis suppositories can alleviate the pain associated with period\u00a0cramps).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">But there is hope, and a ton of anecdotal evidence from women around the world to support its use. \u00a0We know from existing research that cannabis can reduce pain, we are also aware that <a href=\"https:\/\/getnugg.com\/blog\/thc-vs-cbd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THC can reduce anxiety<\/a> and nausea \u2013 the most common symptoms of PMS for which patients seek treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Mike Aldrich, physician and cannabis historian, said he has \u201cheard many anecdotal reports\u201d from patients on how marijuana helps with period\u00a0cramps and pain. On the other hand, Charles Bollmann of the University of New Jersey doesn&#8217;t support the use of cannabis for menstrual\/period cramps. He claims &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/Does-weed-help-with-period-cramps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">menstrual cramps<\/a> are easily treated with conventional methods.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"4\"><strong>Star Power\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">With awareness and understanding of the medicinal effects of cannabis for a variety of medical conditions spreading, more and more prominent personalities are stepping up to raise awareness, some are even launching their own products!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">\u201cI have grown granddaughters who have severe cramps, so I said this is what I want to work on.\u201d \u2013 Whoopi Goldberg, Vanity Fair <\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Last week Whoopi Goldberg announced that she had joined with Maya Elisabeth &#8212; one of medical marijuana&#8217;s leading \u201ccanna-businesswomen\u201d &#8212; to launch a line of cannabis-infused products geared at providing relief from the symptoms of menstrual cramps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/whoopiandmaya.com\/\">Whoopi &amp; Maya<\/a><\/em> offers a wide-range of products including edibles, topical rubs, tinctures and even a bath soak. Goldberg said discretion was a key feature in the creation of her product line because it allows you the option of getting relief without &#8220;getting high.&#8221; The topical rub, for example, could be used for lower back pain while at work while a cannabis-infused bath soak at the end of the day may be just the remedy you need. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The idea of a cannabis rub for PMS is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1300\/J175v02n03_02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not a new thing<\/a>. Remember Queen Victoria? Back in the day, a topical rub was made by combining cannabis and lamb\u2019s fat, then massaged into the breasts for relief from and dispersal of swelling. (Thankfully more pleasant carrier oils, like olive, avocado seed, apricot kernel and jojoba have replaced presence of lamb&#8217;s fat! )<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"><em>Whoopi &amp; Maya<\/em> isn&#8217;t the only brand on the market either. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/foriapleasure.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foria<\/a><\/em> currently offers a line of <a href=\"https:\/\/getnugg.com\/blog\/best-female-cannabis-products\/\">feminine goodies<\/a> that, while aimed primarily at enhancing the sexual experience, does contain a 4-pack of \u201crelief suppositories\u201d which promise to \u201cdeliver the medicine \u00a0directly to where it is needed most.\u201d It&#8217;s essentially a CBD-based product for menstrual pain and period cramps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Most recently, a company called <em><a href=\"http:\/\/mylivia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Livia<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(not cannabis-related) launched an Indigogo campaign for their feminine product, which\u00a0they advertise as the &#8220;off switch for menstrual cramps.&#8221; It works by tuning into the &#8220;wavelength frequency of your menstrual pain and blocks the pain from registering in your body.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"5\"><strong>Testimonials\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Emily (Aspen, CO): I swear by it.
