How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Nevada

Medicinal marijuana card holders in Nevada may opt to have a designated caregiver. It’s important to inform your doctor during your evaluation if this is the case. You will need their signed approval. When you submit your application to the state portal, there is an option to click “I will have a caregiver.” Follow the prompts provided.

Caregivers must

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be issued an official medical marijuana ID card on behalf of the patient
  • Be approved by the physician
  • Provide their valid driver’s license or government-issued ID

Caregivers must not

  • Be assigned to more than one patient, and each patient may only have one caregiver.
  • Be the attending physician.
  • Be a cardholder themselves.

Caregivers are subject to the same laws and limits that apply to medical marijuana patients. All application fees must be paid, and caregivers must renew their application annually.

  • While cannabis is legal in Nevada for adults 21 and older, holding a medical marijuana card has its benefits in Nevada. Cardholders do not have to pay the 10% retail excise tax, and can purchase more than twice the amount of flower, concentrate, and edibles as non-cardholders. Cannabis cultivation is legal for adults 21 and older but only if they are farther than 25 miles away from a dispensary and only up to 6 plants. Medical marijuana card holders can grow up to 12 plants if they are farther than 25 miles away from a dispensary, are too ill or unable to drive, or the dispensary does not carry what they need.

  • An evaluation for a one-year Nevada medical marijuana card with NuggMD only costs $89. Or get evaluated for a two-year medical cannabis card for just $109 total. Even better, with NuggMD, you’ll never be charged if you don’t qualify for cannabis treatment. Registration through the state costs $50 for a card that lasts one year and $100 for a card that lasts two. There is currently no fee waiver for the state fees.

  • No. Health insurance will not cover the fees required to submit a medical marijuana application in the state of Nevada because cannabis is federally illegal. If federal law changes, this may impact how health insurers view medical marijuana use.

  • With NuggMD, registering and connecting with a licensed physician can be accomplished in an hour. Creating a profile and filling out the application through Nevada’s state portal should take no longer. Once a completed application is submitted, a response from the state can take up to 48 hours. If approved, you’ll receive a temporary card that you can print and use until you receive an official card within 3-7 days.

  • With NuggMD, you are ONLY charged for your evaluation if you are approved. We believe everyone deserves access to a qualified medical cannabis doctor, and the cost of an evaluation shouldn’t be a barrier.

  • You’ll only be charged if you’re approved for your medical marijuana certification. If not, your evaluation is free! If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing. You can also change your mind after your evaluation if you wish and request a refund, but you must do so before the doctor has provided your signed Attending Physician Statement. Once your signed Attending Physician Statement has been provided, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us! Once a refund has been initiated, please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back to the card you used for the transaction. If any issues arise, please feel free to reach back out for further assistance.
